The AKG N9 Hybrid uses an over-ear fit and weighs 281 g, sitting in a closed-back design with stereo speakers. It is not foldable and carries no water resistance rating. On the cable side, it comes with a detachable, tangle-free cable, and a travel bag is included in the box for transport and storage.
The AKG N9 Hybrid is equipped with 40 mm drivers and covers a frequency range of 20 Hz to 40,000 Hz, with an impedance of 32 Ohms and a sound pressure level of 98 dB/mW. It supports both active noise cancellation and passive noise reduction, offering two layers of sound isolation. Spatial audio is also supported, while the drivers do not use a neodymium magnet.
The AKG N9 Hybrid houses a built-in rechargeable battery that is not removable, delivering up to 100 hours of battery life in standard use and 55 hours with ANC enabled. Charging is handled via USB Type-C, and a battery level indicator lets users monitor remaining charge. Wireless charging and solar power are not supported.
The AKG N9 Hybrid supports both wireless and wired connectivity, using Bluetooth 5.3 with a maximum range of 10 m. Among wireless audio codecs, LDAC is supported, while aptX, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX Low Latency, aptX Lossless, AAC, LDHC, and Bluetooth LE Audio are not. Fast pairing, NFC pairing, and Auracast are also absent from the feature set.
The AKG N9 Hybrid can be used as a headset, backed by a noise-canceling microphone for call and voice use. An ambient sound mode is included, allowing users to let in surrounding audio when needed. Controls are handled through an on-device panel rather than an in-line cable remote, and there is no mute function or in/on-ear detection for automatic playback pausing.
