It carries an IP68 ingress protection rating, classifying it as waterproof under the conditions that standard defines. The phone does not feature a rugged build in the traditional sense, but the IP68 certification does provide a meaningful level of protection against water exposure.

The Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro features a 6.78″ OLED/AMOLED touchscreen with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 px and a pixel density of 388 ppi, backed by an infinite contrast ratio inherent to the panel technology. The display runs at a 185Hz refresh rate with a 720Hz touch sampling rate, and reaches a typical brightness of 1600 nits. It supports both HDR10 and HDR10+, while Dolby Vision is not included. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and includes an Always-On Display mode, though there is no secondary screen on the device.

The Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, built on a 3nm semiconductor process with an 8-thread CPU configuration running at 2 x 4.32 GHz and 6 x 3.53 GHz, using big.LITTLE architecture with HMP support and a TDP of 8.2W. It is paired with 24GB of DDR5 RAM running at 5300 MHz across two memory channels, a maximum memory bandwidth of 85.1 GB/s, and 1024GB of internal storage. The Adreno 830 GPU operates at a clock speed of 1100 MHz with 1536 shading units and supports up to two displays, along with DirectX 12, OpenGL 3.2, OpenGL ES 3.2, and OpenCL 3. Cache configuration includes 192KB L1, 12MB L2, and 8MB L3, while the chipset also features integrated LTE, integrated graphics, TrustZone security, ECC memory support, and multithreading. Benchmark scores stand at 3,110,000 on AnTuTu, 10,059 on Geekbench 6 multi-core, and 3,234 on Geekbench 6 single-core.

Privacy controls are reasonably broad, covering clipboard warnings, location access management, and camera/microphone permissions, along with the ability to block app tracking; however, Mail Privacy Protection and cross-site tracking blocking are not included, and Wi-Fi password sharing is also absent. On the productivity side, the OS supports full-page scrolling screenshots, a media picker, Live Text for selecting text from images, customizable notifications, a child lock, app offloading, and offline voice recognition with voice commands. On-device machine learning is present, battery health checking is supported, and the device can track its own position, though it cannot function as a PC replacement and does not receive OS updates directly from the platform vendor.

The Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro houses a rechargeable 5800 mAh battery that is not user-removable, and a battery level indicator is available on the device. It supports wired fast charging at 65W and wireless charging at 15W, with a charger included in the box. Reverse wireless charging is not supported.

The Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, stereo speakers, and three microphones. Emergency SOS via satellite is not supported, no stylus is included, and there is no built-in projector.

The Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro includes a video light for use during video recording. The display is flat rather than curved, uses neither sapphire glass nor an e-paper panel.
