The Asus ROG Strix Z890-I Gaming WiFi is built around the LGA 1851 socket and is compatible with the Z890 chipset, housed in a compact Mini-ITX form factor measuring 170 x 170 mm. It supports a broad wireless connectivity stack spanning Wi-Fi 4 through Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be), complemented by Bluetooth 5.4, though aptX audio codec support is not included. The board outputs video via HDMI 2.1 but does not feature integrated or onboard graphics, and it accepts a single CPU without a dedicated integrated processor. Overclocking is supported, and the board includes RGB lighting. It does not offer a dual BIOS setup or an easy CMOS reset function, and it carries a warranty period of 3 years.
The board uses DDR5 memory across two slots arranged in a dual-channel configuration, with a maximum supported capacity of 96 GB. Overclocked RAM speeds can reach up to 8800 MHz, offering considerable headroom for performance-oriented memory kits. ECC memory is not supported.
The rear I/O panel offers a varied USB lineup, including three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, two USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port, and a USB 4 40Gbps port, with no USB 3.2 Gen 2 or Gen 1 Type-C ports present separately. There is also a Thunderbolt 4 port, while Thunderbolt 3 is absent. Video output is handled by a single HDMI connector, with no DisplayPort, DVI, or VGA outputs available. Networking is served by one RJ45 port, and there are no eSATA or PS/2 ports on this board.
For internal connectivity, the board provides two M.2 sockets alongside two SATA 3 connectors, while SATA 2 and U.2 sockets are absent, as is an mSATA connector. USB expansion headers include two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, two USB 3.0 ports, and three USB 2.0 ports, all routed through internal connectors. Three fan headers are available for cooling management. A TPM connector is not present on this board.
Expansion slot options are minimal by design, as expected from a Mini-ITX board — there is a single PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for a discrete graphics card or other full-length expansion card. No PCIe 4.0, 3.0, 2.0, x8, x4, or x1 slots are present, and there are no legacy PCI slots either.
The board supports 8-channel audio, but ships without any rear-panel audio connectors and does not include an S/PDIF output port.
The board supports RAID 0 and RAID 1 configurations, covering basic striping and mirroring setups respectively. RAID 5, RAID 10, and RAID 0+1 are not supported.
