The Boult Audio Mutant adopt a true wireless, in-ear design with no cables or neckband connecting the two earbuds, keeping the setup minimal and unencumbered. Each earbud houses a stereo speaker, and the design omits wingtips, RGB lighting, a UV light, and any on-unit display, reflecting a straightforward, no-frills physical form.
The Boult Audio Mutant uses a 13 mm driver unit and covers a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, spanning the full extent of standard human hearing. It supports spatial audio for a more expansive soundstage, while passive noise reduction helps attenuate ambient sound without active noise cancellation. Dolby Atmos, Dirac Virtuo, and a neodymium magnet are not part of the hardware configuration.
The Boult Audio Mutant carries a rechargeable battery rated at 8 hours of playback per charge, with the accompanying charging case extending the total available battery to 52 hours. A full charge takes 1.5 hours, and a battery level indicator lets users keep track of remaining power. Wireless charging and solar power are not supported.
The Boult Audio Mutant connects wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.4 with a maximum range of 10 m and an audio latency of 45 ms. USB Type-C is available for wired charging, though NFC pairing and fast pairing are not supported. On the codec side, the earbuds do not include LDAC, LDHC, AAC, Auracast, Bluetooth LE Audio, or any variant of aptX, covering adaptive, low latency, HD, lossless, and voice formats alike.
The Boult Audio Mutant supports multipoint connectivity for up to two devices at once and can function as a headset for calls, backed by a mute function and voice prompts for hands-free feedback. Controls are handled through a panel placed on the earbuds themselves rather than an in-line remote, and fast charging is available for quicker power top-ups. A travel bag is included in the package. The earbuds do not offer ambient sound mode, in-ear detection for auto-pause, a find-device feature, notification readout, a body temperature sensor, or a camera remote shutter function.
The Boult Audio Mutant is equipped with a four-microphone array that includes noise cancellation, helping to reduce unwanted background sound during calls and voice interactions.
