Coolpad C16s

The Coolpad C16s has a fairly sizeable footprint, measuring 167.9 mm tall and 77.9 mm wide with a thickness of 8.7 mm, and it tips the scales at 215 g. It is a standard candybar-style handset with no folding mechanism and no rugged certification, and it carries no water resistance rating, meaning it offers no protection against moisture or dust exposure.

The Coolpad C16s features a 6.75″ IPS LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1600 px and a pixel density of 260 ppi. The display runs at a 90Hz refresh rate, complemented by a 180Hz touch sampling rate for responsive input. There is no Always-On Display, no HDR10, HDR10+, or Dolby Vision support, and the screen does not use branded damage-resistant glass. The device also has no secondary screen.

The Coolpad C16s is driven by the MediaTek Helio G36 system-on-chip, built on a 12nm process and configured as an octa-core processor using big.LITTLE technology, with four cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and four at 1.8 GHz across 8 threads. It is paired with 4GB of DDR4 RAM running at 1600 MHz, a maximum memory bandwidth of 13.9 GB/s across two memory channels, and supports up to 8GB of RAM in total. The device ships with 256GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage, expandable by up to 1TB via external memory. Graphics are handled by the PowerVR GE8320 GPU with a base clock of 650 MHz and a turbo clock of 680 MHz, supporting DirectX 12, OpenGL ES 3.2, and OpenCL 1.2, with integrated LTE also built into the SoC. Benchmark results place it at 229 in Geekbench 6 single-core and 842 in multi-core, with an AnTuTu score of 148,000. The chipset also supports 64-bit processing, multithreading, NX bit, and ARM TrustZone for hardware-level security.

The Coolpad C16s features a dual-lens rear camera system combining a 50MP primary sensor with a 2MP secondary lens, both using a CMOS sensor without back-side illumination. Autofocus options include phase-detection autofocus for stills and continuous autofocus during video recording, along with touch autofocus, though laser autofocus is absent. The rear camera supports a solid range of manual controls — including manual exposure, ISO, focus, and white balance — as well as HDR mode, burst shooting, slow-motion video recording, and in-camera panoramas, while optical zoom, RAW capture, manual shutter speed, HDR10 recording, Dolby Vision recording, and 3D capture are not available. A single LED flash is present on the back, with no dual-tone or RGB flash. On the front, there is an 8MP single-lens camera with an f/2 aperture, but it lacks its own flash and is not positioned under the display.

The Coolpad C16s runs Android 14, bringing a broad set of software features covering both usability and privacy. On the privacy side, it includes clipboard warnings, location privacy options, camera and microphone access controls, and the ability to block app tracking, though cross-site tracking blocking and Mail Privacy Protection are absent. The interface supports theme customization, dynamic theming, dark mode, and an extra dim mode, while productivity features include split-screen multitasking, picture-in-picture, full-page screenshots, a media picker, sharing intents, customizable notifications, notification permission controls, widgets, and the ability to play games while they are still downloading. It also offers on-device machine learning, offline voice recognition, voice commands, Live Text, phone tracking, multi-user support, a child lock, and a battery health check. However, the device does not support focus modes, Wi-Fi password sharing, app offloading, Quick Start, direct OS vendor updates, or use as a PC.

The Coolpad C16s is equipped with a 5000 mAh rechargeable, non-removable battery that supports fast charging at up to 10W via cable. Wireless charging is not available. The device includes a battery level indicator, giving users a straightforward way to monitor remaining charge.

The Coolpad C16s includes stereo speakers but omits a 3.5mm headphone jack, so wired audio requires an adapter or Bluetooth. On the wireless audio side, none of the high-quality codec options are supported — there is no aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, or LDAC. The device also lacks a built-in radio.

The Coolpad C16s supports Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) and Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and USB Type-C, along with an external memory slot for storage expansion. It accommodates a single SIM card and offers cellular connectivity with download speeds of up to 300 Mbits/s and upload speeds of up to 150 Mbits/s, though 5G is not supported. Location capabilities include GPS with Galileo support, and onboard sensors cover a gyroscope, accelerometer, and compass. A fingerprint scanner handles biometric authentication, while 3D facial recognition and an iris scanner are absent. Features such as a heart rate monitor, barometer, infrared sensor, ANT+, DLNA certification, HDMI output, satellite SOS, crash detection, motion tracking, optical tracking, and a built-in projector are all not included, and no stylus comes with the device.

The Coolpad C16s includes a video light for recording in low-light conditions, while its display is flat and uses neither sapphire glass nor e-paper technology.
