The Edifier R1 adopt an open-ear fit and are fully true wireless, with no cables or neckband involved. Each earbud weighs 11.6 g and includes stereo speaker output, while wingtips, RGB lighting, a display, and UV light are all absent from the design. For durability, the earbuds carry an IP56 rating, confirming solid resistance to both water ingress and dust.
The Edifier R1 use a 12 mm driver unit and cover a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, with a sound pressure level of 90 dB/mW. The earbuds do not include active noise cancellation, passive noise reduction, spatial audio, Dolby Atmos, Dirac Virtuo, or a neodymium magnet, keeping the audio setup relatively straightforward.
The Edifier R1 offer 7 hours of battery life per charge, with the included charging case extending total playback to 21 hours. The rechargeable battery reaches a full charge in approximately 1 hour, and a battery level indicator is on hand to track remaining power. Wireless charging and solar charging are not supported.
The Edifier R1 connect wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.4 with a maximum range of 10 m, and support the AAC codec for audio transmission. Charging is handled through USB Type-C, while NFC pairing and fast pairing are not available. On the codec side, LDAC, LDHC, aptX and all its variants, Bluetooth LE Audio, and Auracast are not supported.
The Edifier R1 support multipoint connectivity for up to two devices at once and can be used as a headset, with voice prompts and a mute function also on board. Controls are handled through a panel placed on the device itself, while an in-line control panel is not included. Fast charging is supported, and a travel bag comes in the box. Ambient sound mode, in/on-ear detection, notification readout, a temperature sensor, and a camera remote function are all absent from the feature set.
The Edifier R1 are equipped with a noise-canceling microphone, helping to reduce unwanted background sound during calls or voice communication.
