The Huawei Mate 70 has a non-folding, standard-form design measuring 160.9 mm tall, 75.9 mm wide, and 7.8 mm thick, with a total volume of 95.256018 cm³ and a weight of 203 g. It carries an IP68 ingress protection rating, classifying it as waterproof, though it does not feature a rugged build.

The Huawei Mate 70 uses an OLED/AMOLED touchscreen measuring 6.7″ with a resolution of 1216 x 2688 px and a pixel density of 440 ppi. The display runs at a 120Hz refresh rate and supports a 300Hz touch sampling rate for responsive input. It does not include branded damage-resistant glass, Always-On Display functionality, a secondary screen, or support for HDR10, HDR10+, or Dolby Vision.

The Huawei Mate 70 is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 9020 chipset, built on a 7 nm semiconductor process with a 12-thread CPU configuration running at 2 x 2.5, 6 x 2.15, and 4 x 1.6 GHz using big.LITTLE technology, and a thermal design power of 6W. It comes with 12GB of RAM clocked at 2750 MHz and a maximum memory bandwidth of 44 GB/s, alongside 1024GB of internal storage. Graphics are handled by the integrated Maleoon 920 GPU running at 840 MHz, with support for DirectX 12, OpenGL ES 3.2, and OpenCL 2. The chipset also includes integrated LTE, supports 64-bit processing, and the device is equipped with integrated graphics.

The Huawei Mate 70 features a multi-lens rear camera system with three sensors at 50, 12, and 40 MP, paired with apertures of f/1.4, f/3.4, and f/2.2 respectively, a CMOS sensor, 5x optical zoom, and built-in optical image stabilization. Autofocus options include phase-detection, laser, touch, and continuous autofocus during video recording, while a dual-tone LED flash with two LEDs handles low-light situations. Manual controls cover ISO, shutter speed, exposure, focus, and white balance, and the camera also supports RAW capture, HDR mode, burst mode, slow-motion video, panoramas, and timelapse, though 360° panorama, HDR10 recording, Dolby Vision recording, and 3D photo/video are not available. The 13 MP front camera sits at f/2.4 and is a single-lens unit positioned conventionally — not under the display — with no front-facing flash, and the rear flash does not use RGB LEDs.

The Huawei Mate 70's operating system includes a range of usability and privacy features, such as camera and microphone privacy options, dark mode, customizable notifications, a child lock, widgets, voice commands, sharing intents, and multi-user support. It also offers split-screen multitasking, battery health monitoring, and device position tracking. However, it does not receive direct OS updates from the vendor and cannot be used as a PC.

The Huawei Mate 70 is equipped with a 5300 mAh rechargeable, non-removable battery that supports 66W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging, with a charger included in the box. A battery level indicator is present, though reverse wireless charging is not supported.

The Huawei Mate 70 includes stereo speakers but omits a 3.5 mm headphone jack and does not feature a built-in radio. On the wireless audio side, it lacks support for aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, and LDAC.

The Huawei Mate 70 supports 5G cellular connectivity and accommodates two SIM cards, with Wi-Fi coverage spanning Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n), Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), and Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be). It connects via Bluetooth 5.2 and includes a USB Type-C port running USB 3.1, while NFC and a fingerprint scanner are also present. The device supports GPS and Galileo for positioning, and onboard sensors include a gyroscope, accelerometer, compass, and infrared sensor. Notably, it offers emergency SOS via satellite, though crash detection, ANT+, a heart rate monitor, a barometer, HDMI output, DLNA certification, 3D facial recognition, an iris scanner, motion tracking, optical tracking, and a built-in projector are all absent. No stylus is included, and there is no external memory slot.

The Huawei Mate 70 includes a video light for recording in low-light conditions, while its display is flat rather than curved and uses neither sapphire glass nor an e-paper panel.
