The Insta360 X4 has a physical footprint of 123.6 mm in height, 46 mm in width, and 37.6 mm in thickness, with a total volume of around 213.78 cm³ and a weight of 203 g. It features a 2.5-inch touch screen protected by branded damage-resistant glass, though it does not include a secondary or flip-out screen. Motion sensing is handled by both an accelerometer and a gyroscope, and the camera accepts external memory cards, as it includes no internal storage. There is no dedicated bike mount included, and water resistance is rated at the fully waterproof level.
The Insta360 X4 is compatible with both Android and iOS devices and supports smartphone remote control, allowing users to operate the camera wirelessly from their phone. Wireless connectivity covers Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n), and Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be), alongside Bluetooth 5.2, while a USB Type-C port handles wired data transfer and charging. The Insta360 X4 is equipped with a rechargeable 2290 mAh battery that provides approximately 2.25 hours of use on a full charge, which is reached in around one hour. A battery level indicator is present so remaining charge can be monitored at a glance. Fast charging is not supported.

Additional video modes include slow-motion, timelapse, a 24p cinema mode, and horizon leveling, while invisible selfie stick support allows the mount to be removed from footage in post. The camera does not include a built-in video light.
