The JBL Wave Beam 2 uses an in-ear fit and is built as a true wireless design with no cables or neckband. Each earbud weighs just 8.6 grams and delivers stereo sound without wingtips or any RGB lighting. For protection, it carries an IP54 ingress protection rating, making it resistant to sweat, though it does not include a display or UV light.
The JBL Wave Beam 2 features an 8 mm driver unit covering a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, with an impedance of 16 Ohms and a sound pressure level of 95 dB/mW. It supports both active noise cancellation (ANC) and passive noise reduction, helping to limit unwanted ambient sound during use. Spatial audio, Dolby Atmos, and Dirac Virtuo are not supported, and the driver does not use a neodymium magnet.
Each earbud holds a 50 mAh rechargeable battery delivering up to 10 hours of playback, or 8 hours when active noise cancellation is enabled. The accompanying charging case carries a 550 mAh battery that brings the total combined battery life to 30 hours, and a full charge takes 2 hours. A battery level indicator is included, while wireless charging and solar power are not supported.
The JBL Wave Beam 2 connects wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.3 with a maximum range of 10 meters, and supports fast pairing for quick device setup. It uses USB Type-C for wired charging and can be used fully wirelessly, though it does not support NFC pairing or Auracast. On the codec side, LDAC, LDHC, AAC, and the full range of aptX variants — including aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Low Latency, aptX Lossless, and aptX Voice — are not supported, nor is Bluetooth LE Audio.
The JBL Wave Beam 2 includes an ambient sound mode, a mute function, voice prompts, and a device control panel for on-earbud playback management, though there is no in-line control panel. It can be used as a headset and supports multipoint connectivity for up to two devices at once, along with fast charging for quicker power top-ups. A find-device feature and a travel bag are both included, while in-ear detection, notification reading, a temperature sensor, and a camera remote shutter function are absent.
The JBL Wave Beam 2 is equipped with a four-microphone setup that includes noise-canceling microphone technology, helping to reduce background noise during calls and voice interactions.
