Motorola Moto S50

The Motorola Moto S50 has a standard, non-folding form factor measuring 154.1 mm tall, 71.2 mm wide, and just 8.1 mm thick, with a total volume of 88.87 cm³ and a weight of 170 g. It carries an IP68 rating, classifying it as waterproof under the ingress protection standard, which provides reliable protection against dust and water immersion. The device does not feature a rugged build construction beyond this rating.

The Moto S50 features a 6.36″ OLED/AMOLED touchscreen with a resolution of 1272 x 2670 px and a pixel density of 460 ppi, producing a sharp and detailed image. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate along with both HDR10 and HDR10+ standards, while Dolby Vision is not supported. The display includes an Always-On mode and is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 for scratch resistance. There is no secondary screen on this device.

The Moto S50 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300, a 4 nm chipset built with 6,200 million transistors and an octa-core CPU configuration running at 4 x 2.5 GHz and 4 x 2 GHz across 8 threads, using big.LITTLE architecture with HMP support. It comes with 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM at 6,400 MHz and 256 GB of internal storage, with the chipset supporting a maximum of 16 GB of memory. Graphics are handled by the integrated Mali G615 MC2 GPU clocked at 1,047 MHz, supporting DirectX 12 and a single display output. The SoC includes integrated LTE, supports 64-bit processing, and the device posted Geekbench 6 scores of 1,026 (single-core) and 2,932 (multi-core).

The Moto S50 features a multi-lens rear camera system with three sensors at 50, 13, and 12 MP, paired with apertures of f/1.9, f/2.0, and f/2.2 respectively, along with optical image stabilization and 3x optical zoom. The main camera uses a CMOS sensor and supports phase-detection autofocus, touch autofocus, and continuous autofocus during video recording, though laser autofocus is not included and there is no back-illuminated sensor. Shooting options are broad, covering HDR mode, burst mode, panorama, timelapse, slow-motion video, and manual controls for exposure, ISO, focus, and white balance, while RAW capture and manual shutter speed are not available. Video recording reaches up to 4K at 30 fps, though HDR10 and Dolby Vision recording are not supported. A single LED flash is present on the rear, with no dual-tone or RGB flash, while the 32 MP front camera has an f/2.4 aperture and sits in a standard position — not under the display — with no front flash and a single-lens configuration.

The Moto S50 runs on Android 14, an open-source platform that supports multi-user access, voice commands, offline voice recognition, on-device machine learning, and device tracking. Privacy controls are reasonably comprehensive, covering location access, camera and microphone permissions, clipboard warnings, and app tracking blocking, though cross-site tracking blocking and Mail Privacy Protection are absent. On the usability side, the OS includes dark mode, dynamic and manual theme customization, customizable notifications, a media picker, full-page scrolling screenshots, split-screen multitasking, Picture-in-Picture, widgets, a child lock, sharing intents, battery health check, an extra dim mode, and the ability to play games while they download. Live Text for selecting text from images is also supported. Features not present include focus modes, Wi-Fi password sharing, app offloading, Quick Start, and the ability to function as a PC, and the device does not receive direct OS updates from the vendor.

The Moto S50 houses a rechargeable 4,310 mAh battery with a battery level indicator and support for 68W wired fast charging. Wireless charging is also available at up to 15W, though reverse wireless charging is not supported. The battery is sealed and cannot be removed by the user.

The Moto S50 includes stereo speakers but omits a 3.5 mm headphone jack, so wired audio requires an adapter or USB-C headphones. None of the advanced Bluetooth audio codecs — aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, or LDAC — are supported, and there is no built-in radio tuner.

The Moto S50 supports 5G connectivity with download and upload speeds of up to 3,270 Mbit/s, and accommodates two SIM cards. Wi-Fi coverage spans Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n), Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), and Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax), while Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC are also on board. The USB Type-C port operates at USB 2.0 speed, and there is no external memory slot, HDMI output, or DLNA certification. For positioning, the device includes GPS with Galileo support, alongside a gyroscope, accelerometer, and compass, though a barometer is absent. Biometric security is handled by a fingerprint scanner; 3D facial recognition and an iris scanner are not available. Features such as ANT+, an infrared sensor, a heart rate monitor, satellite SOS, crash detection, motion and optical tracking, a built-in projector, and a stylus are all absent from this device.

The Moto S50 features a curved display and includes a video light for recording in low-light conditions. The screen uses neither sapphire glass nor e-paper technology.
