The MSI MPG Z890 Carbon WiFi uses the LGA 1851 socket and is compatible with the Z890 chipset, housed in a standard ATX form factor measuring 304.8 mm wide and 243.8 mm tall. It supports a single CPU and does not include an integrated CPU or integrated graphics. Wireless connectivity is well covered, with Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) alongside backwards-compatible Wi-Fi 4 through 6E standards, and Bluetooth 5.4, though aptX is not supported. The board features RGB lighting, an easy BIOS reset via clear CMOS, and is noted as straightforward to overclock, while dual BIOS is not present. A three-year warranty is included.
This board supports DDR5 memory across four slots in a dual-channel configuration, with a maximum capacity of 256 GB. Standard RAM speeds reach up to 4800 MHz, while overclocked profiles can push that figure to 9200 MHz. ECC memory is not supported.
The rear I/O offers a strong USB lineup, headlined by two USB 4 40Gbps ports and two Thunderbolt 4 ports, alongside ten USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports and one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port. There are no USB 3.2 Gen 1, USB 2.0, USB 4 20Gbps, or USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 ports present. Video output is limited to a single HDMI port, with no DisplayPort, DVI, or VGA connectors available. Networking is served by two RJ45 ports, and there are no eSATA or PS/2 ports included.
Storage connectivity is anchored by five M.2 sockets and four SATA 3 connectors, while SATA 2 and U.2 sockets are absent, and there is no mSATA connector. For USB expansion headers, the board provides four USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, four USB 3.0 ports, and four USB 2.0 ports through internal connectors. Cooling is supported by seven fan headers, and a TPM connector is present for security module installation.
The board provides three full-length PCIe slots in total: two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot. There are no PCIe 3.0, PCIe 2.0, PCIe x1, PCIe x4, PCIe x8, or legacy PCI slots present.
The onboard audio supports 7.1-channel output and delivers a DAC signal-to-noise ratio of 120 dB. Two audio connectors are available on the rear panel, and an S/PDIF Out port is included for digital audio passthrough.
The board supports RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 (1+0) configurations, covering a broad range of performance and redundancy setups. RAID 0+1 is not supported.
