Oppo A40

The Oppo A40 has a slim and lightweight build, measuring 165.77mm tall, 76mm wide, and just 7.68mm thick, with a total weight of 186g. Its compact volume of 96.76cm³ keeps it easy to handle despite the large screen. The phone offers water resistance, providing a degree of protection against moisture, though it does not feature a rugged build and is not a foldable device.

The Oppo A40 features a 6.67″ IPS LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1604px and a pixel density of 264 ppi. The display runs at a 90Hz refresh rate with a 180Hz touch sampling rate, contributing to smoother on-screen interactions, and reaches a typical brightness of 1000 nits. It does not include branded damage-resistant glass, and there is no support for HDR10, HDR10+, or Dolby Vision, nor does it offer an Always-On Display mode or a secondary screen.

The Oppo A40 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, a 4nm octa-core chipset with four cores clocked at 2.2GHz and four at 1.8GHz, supported by 8GB of DDR5 RAM running at 2750MHz and 256GB of internal storage expandable up to 1TB. The chip includes an Adreno 710 GPU clocked at 800MHz with 128 shading units, integrated graphics, and support for DirectX 12, OpenGL ES 3.2, and OpenCL 2.0. It uses big.LITTLE architecture with Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP), operates on 8 threads across a 64-bit instruction set, and has a TDP of 7W. Cache memory consists of 256KB L1, 2MB L2, and 2MB L3, while the maximum memory bandwidth reaches 22 GB/s across two memory channels, with the platform supporting up to 12GB of RAM. Additional features include integrated LTE, TrustZone security, and eMMC 5.1 storage, with Geekbench 6 scores of 943 single-core and 2748 multi-core.

The Oppo A40 carries a single rear camera with a 50MP sensor at f/1.8 aperture, backed by a BSI CMOS sensor, phase-detection autofocus, and continuous autofocus during video recording. Manual controls cover exposure, ISO, focus, and white balance, while shooting modes include HDR, burst, panorama, timelapse, and slow-motion video, with video recording capped at 1080p 30fps. The main camera does not support optical zoom, optical image stabilization, laser autofocus, RAW capture, manual shutter speed, 360° panorama, HDR10 or Dolby Vision recording, or 3D capture, and uses a single LED flash with no dual-tone or RGB options. On the front, a 5MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture handles selfies, though it lacks a front-facing flash, a secondary lens, and is not positioned under the display.

The Oppo A40 runs Android 14 and comes with a broad set of software features covering both usability and privacy. On the privacy side, it offers clipboard warnings, location privacy options, camera and microphone access controls, and the ability to block app tracking, though it does not include Mail Privacy Protection or cross-site tracking prevention. Customization options include theme customization, dynamic theming, dark mode, and an extra dim mode, while practical tools such as split-screen multitasking, Picture-in-Picture, full-page screenshots, a media picker, customizable notifications, widgets, and sharing intents are all supported. The system also includes on-device machine learning, offline voice recognition, voice commands, Live Text, a child lock, multi-user support, battery health check, and phone tracking. Games can be played while downloading, but the device does not support focus modes, app offloading, Wi-Fi password sharing, Quick Start, or direct OS vendor updates, and it cannot be used as a PC.

The Oppo A40 is equipped with a 5100 mAh rechargeable battery that supports 45W fast wired charging, and a charger is included in the box. A battery level indicator is present for monitoring charge status. The battery is not removable and does not support wireless charging.

The Oppo A40 includes a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired audio and supports aptX over Bluetooth for improved wireless audio quality. However, it does not support higher-tier codecs such as aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, or LDAC. The device has a single speaker rather than a stereo setup, and there is no built-in radio.

The Oppo A40 supports Wi-Fi 4 and Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and a cellular module with download speeds of up to 2900 Mbits/s and upload speeds of up to 900 Mbits/s, though 5G is not available. It accommodates two SIM cards and includes an external memory slot for storage expansion, alongside a USB Type-C port for wired connectivity, while HDMI output is not supported. For navigation, the device features GPS with Galileo support, and its sensor set covers a gyroscope, accelerometer, and compass, though there is no barometer, infrared sensor, heart rate monitor, or motion and optical tracking. Security is handled by a fingerprint scanner, with no 3D facial recognition or iris scanner present. The device does not support ANT+, DLNA, satellite SOS, crash detection, or include a stylus or built-in projector.

The Oppo A40 includes a video light to assist with recording in low-light conditions. The display is flat rather than curved and uses neither sapphire glass nor an e-paper panel.
