Oukitel WP38

The Oukitel WP38 features a rugged, non-folding build rated IP68 for full waterproof protection against dust and water ingress. It measures 172.2 mm tall, 80.7 mm wide, and 17.1 mm thick, with a total volume of approximately 237.63 cm³. At 366 g, the device carries notable heft, which is consistent with its hardened construction.

The Oukitel WP38 uses a 6.52-inch IPS LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1600 px and a pixel density of 269 ppi. The panel is protected by Gorilla Glass 5, offering resistance against scratches and accidental impacts. It does not support HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, or an Always-On Display mode, and there is no secondary screen present.

The Oukitel WP38 is driven by the MediaTek MT8788 chipset, built on a 12 nm process with an octa-core CPU running at 8 x 2 GHz and a TDP of 5W. It comes with 6 GB of DDR4 RAM — expandable up to a maximum of 8 GB — and 256 GB of internal storage. Graphics are handled by the integrated Mali G72 MP3 GPU clocked at 900 MHz, featuring 48 shading units and supporting DirectX 12 and OpenGL ES 3.2; the chip does not use big.LITTLE technology. The SoC includes integrated LTE and is 64-bit capable. In benchmarks, the device scores 1306 in Geekbench 5 multi-core, 284 in single-core, and 778 in PassMark.

The Oukitel WP38 features a dual-lens rear camera system pairing a 13 MP primary sensor (f/2.4) with a 2 MP secondary lens (f/2.2), both using a CMOS sensor without back-side illumination. Video recording tops out at 1080p at 30 fps, and there is no optical image stabilization, slow-motion recording, HDR10 recording, or 3D capture. Autofocus options include phase-detection and touch autofocus as well as continuous autofocus during video, though laser autofocus is absent. Manual controls cover exposure, ISO, focus, and white balance, while burst mode and in-camera panorama are also supported; manual shutter speed and RAW shooting are not available. A single LED flash is present on the rear, with no dual-tone or RGB flash. The front camera offers a single 5 MP lens at f/2.2 without a front flash, dual-lens arrangement, or under-display placement, and neither timelapse nor 360-degree panorama shooting is supported on either camera.

The Oukitel WP38 runs Android 13, an open-source platform that supports multi-user profiles, voice commands, offline voice recognition, on-device machine learning, and device tracking. Privacy tools include clipboard warnings, location privacy options, camera and microphone access controls, and the ability to block app tracking, though cross-site tracking blocking and Mail Privacy Protection are not available. On the usability side, the OS offers dark mode, extra dim mode, dynamic theming, theme customization, customizable notifications with granular permission controls, a media picker, Live Text, full-page screenshots, split-screen multitasking, Picture-in-Picture, sharing intents, widgets, and a child lock. Games can be played while downloading, and Wi-Fi password sharing, app offloading, focus modes, battery health check, Quick Start, and PC mode are not supported. Direct OS updates from the vendor are also not provided.

The Oukitel WP38 is equipped with a 10600 mAh rechargeable battery that supports 18W fast charging, and a charger is included in the box. A battery level indicator is present for monitoring charge status. The battery is not removable, and wireless charging is not supported.

The Oukitel WP38 includes a built-in radio but omits a 3.5 mm headphone jack and stereo speakers. On the wireless audio side, none of the high-quality Bluetooth codec standards are supported, including aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, and LDAC.

The Oukitel WP38 connects via Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) and Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), Bluetooth 4.2, and a cellular module, though 5G is not supported and the device accommodates a single SIM card. Wired connectivity is handled by a USB Type-C port running USB 2.0, while HDMI output is absent. NFC is present alongside a fingerprint scanner for authentication, though 3D facial recognition, iris scanning, and a stylus are not included. Location capabilities cover GPS with Galileo support, and onboard sensors include a gyroscope, accelerometer, and compass; a barometer, infrared sensor, heart rate monitor, and motion or optical tracking are not available. External memory expansion is not supported, and features such as ANT+, DLNA certification, crash detection, satellite SOS, and a built-in projector are also absent.

The Oukitel WP38 includes a video light for recording in low-light conditions. The display is flat rather than curved and uses neither sapphire glass nor an e-paper panel.
