The Philips TAX2208 has a fairly substantial physical footprint, measuring 342 mm in height and 250 mm in both width and thickness, with a total volume of 21,375 cm³ and a weight of 2,820 g. It houses a single driver and features RGB lighting along with a detachable cable, adding a degree of visual character and practical flexibility to its build. The control panel is placed directly on the device for straightforward access, though it does not include a touch screen, a remote control, or a travel bag. The speaker offers no water resistance and does not use a neodymium magnet, and it is not designed as a neckband-style unit.
The TAX2208 delivers audio through a single channel at 30W of output power, covering a frequency range from 60 Hz on the low end up to 15,000 Hz at the top. It does not feature stereo speakers or a dedicated subwoofer, and there is no magnetic shielding present. The speaker includes no microphones — neither standard nor noise-canceling — making it a purely audio output device with no built-in voice capture capability.
The TAX2208 is powered by a built-in 3000 mAh rechargeable battery that provides up to 7 hours of playback on a full charge, which is reached in approximately 2.5 hours. A battery level indicator is included so the remaining charge is always visible. The battery is not removable, and the speaker does not support wireless charging, meaning it must be connected by cable to recharge.
The TAX2208 connects wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.2 with a maximum range of 10 meters, though it does not support NFC pairing, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, AirPlay, Chromecast, Auracast, or Bluetooth LE Audio. None of the aptX codec variants — including aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Low Latency, or aptX Lossless — are supported, nor is AAC or LDAC. For wired connectivity, the speaker provides two USB Type-C ports and an AUX input, along with a microphone input, while a 3.5mm audio jack socket, a 3.5mm male connector, and an external memory slot are all absent. DLNA certification is not included either.
The TAX2208 can be used wirelessly and supports smartphone remote control, allowing playback management from a connected device. It also includes voice prompts and a sleep timer, offering a modest set of convenience features for everyday use. On the other hand, it does not support fast pairing, voice commands, or a mute function, and it cannot operate as a power bank. There is no built-in radio either.
The TAX2208 supports stereo pairing, meaning two compatible units can be linked together to reproduce audio across left and right channels for a wider soundstage.
