It is a standard candybar-style smartphone — it cannot be folded and does not carry a rugged build. The device holds an IP54 rating, meaning it offers resistance to dust and splashing water from any direction. It also earns a French Repairability Index score of 8.2 out of 10, indicating a relatively high level of repairability by that standard.

The display is a 6.67-inch OLED/AMOLED touchscreen with a 1080 x 2400 resolution and a pixel density of 395 ppi, running at a 120Hz refresh rate with a 240Hz touch sampling rate for responsive input. It reaches a typical brightness of 600 nits and delivers a contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1, with support for both HDR10 and HDR10+ for compatible content. Always-On Display is available, while Dolby Vision is not supported and there is no secondary screen. The panel does not use branded damage-resistant glass.

The Realme 12 Plus 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chipset, built on a 6 nm process with a 5W TDP and an 8-thread CPU configuration of 2 cores at 2.6 GHz and 6 cores at 2.0 GHz, supported by big.LITTLE and HMP scheduling. It comes with 12GB of DDR5 RAM running at 3200 MHz across 4 memory channels, with a maximum supported memory of 16GB, alongside 512GB of internal storage. Graphics are handled by the Mali G68 MP4 with 4 execution units, 64 shading units, a base clock of 950 MHz, and a turbo of 900 MHz, with support for DirectX 12, OpenGL ES 3.2, and OpenCL 2. Security features include TrustZone and NX bit, and the chipset also integrates LTE. In benchmarks, the device scores 600,560 on AnTuTu, 2413 on Geekbench 6 multi-core, and 973 on the single-core test.

The rear camera system is a triple-lens setup with a 50 MP main sensor at f/1.9, an 8 MP secondary lens at f/2.2, and a 2 MP tertiary unit at f/2.4, all using CMOS sensors without back-illumination. Optical image stabilization is present on the main camera, which also supports 2x optical zoom and records video at up to 4K (2160p) at 30 fps, though HDR10 and Dolby Vision recording are not available. Autofocus options include phase-detection and touch AF for photos, plus continuous autofocus during video, while laser autofocus is absent. Manual controls cover exposure, ISO, focus, and white balance, though manual shutter speed is not available, and the camera supports burst mode, slow-motion video, panorama, timelapse, and HDR mode. The device runs Android 14 and includes a broad set of privacy controls, covering location access management, camera and microphone permission options, clipboard warnings, and the ability to block app tracking; cross-site tracking blocking and Mail Privacy Protection are not available. On the usability side, it supports dark mode, dynamic and manual theme customization, extra dim mode, customizable notifications, a media picker, widgets, split-screen multitasking, picture-in-picture, full-page screenshots, sharing intents, child lock, and multi-user support. Games can be played while downloading, and offline voice recognition alongside voice commands and on-device machine learning are all present. Battery health monitoring is included, while focus modes, Wi-Fi password sharing, app offloading, Quick Start, and the ability to function as a PC are absent. OS updates are not delivered directly by the vendor.

The phone is equipped with a 5000 mAh rechargeable, non-removable battery that supports 67W wired fast charging, and a charger is included in the box. Wireless charging is not available. A battery level indicator is present, making it straightforward to monitor charge status at a glance.

The device includes stereo speakers and a 3.5 mm headset jack for wired audio output. There is no radio tuner, and none of the advanced Bluetooth audio codecs — aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, or LDAC — are supported.

The Realme 12 Plus 5G supports 5G connectivity and accommodates two SIM cards, with cellular download speeds of up to 2770 Mbits/s and upload speeds of up to 1250 Mbits/s. Wireless options include Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) with backwards compatibility to Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4, alongside Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC; there is no external memory slot, no HDMI output, and no DLNA certification. The USB-C port runs on USB 2.0. Sensors on board include a fingerprint scanner, gyroscope, accelerometer, compass, and GPS with Galileo support, while a barometer, infrared sensor, heart rate monitor, iris scanner, and ANT+ are all absent. 3D facial recognition, crash detection, satellite SOS, motion tracking, optical tracking, and a built-in projector are likewise not featured, and no stylus is included.

The device includes a video light to assist with illumination during video recording. The display is flat rather than curved, does not use sapphire glass, and is not an e-paper panel.
