The Sony ULT Field 1 has a compact physical footprint, measuring 206 mm wide, 77 mm tall, and 76 mm thick, with a total volume of approximately 1,205.5 cm³ and a weight of 650 g. Its IP67 rating confirms full dust protection and the ability to withstand temporary submersion, making it well-suited for outdoor use. The speaker features a 16 mm driver unit and includes a detachable cable, while the control panel is located directly on the device itself. It does not include a travel bag, remote control, touch screen, RGB lighting, or a neodymium magnet, and it is not a neckband-style speaker.
The ULT Field 1 runs a dual-driver setup with a combined audio output power of 2 x 15W and covers a full frequency range from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. A passive radiator assists with low-frequency reproduction, though the speaker does not include a dedicated subwoofer. It reaches a sound pressure level of 100 dB/mW and operates without stereo speakers or magnetic shielding. For communication, the speaker incorporates a single microphone, which does not feature noise cancellation.
The ULT Field 1 is powered by a rechargeable 3,000 mAh battery that provides up to 12 hours of playback on a full charge, which takes approximately 5 hours to complete. Charging is handled via cable, as the speaker does not support wireless charging. There is no battery level indicator on the device, so remaining charge is not displayed directly on the unit.
The ULT Field 1 connects wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.3 with a maximum range of 10 m and supports the AAC codec for audio transmission, though aptX variants (including aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, and aptX Low Latency), LDAC, and AirPlay are not supported. Pairing is done through standard Bluetooth without NFC, and there is no Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or DLNA connectivity. For wired connections, the speaker includes a single USB Type-C port used for charging, but it does not offer a 3.5 mm audio jack socket, an AUX input, a 3.5 mm male connector, a microphone input, or an external memory slot.
The ULT Field 1 can be used fully wirelessly and supports smartphone remote control, allowing playback management from a paired device. It includes fast pairing for quicker Bluetooth setup and provides voice prompts to guide the user through actions such as pairing and power states. A sleep timer is also available as a built-in convenience feature. The speaker does not support voice commands, has no built-in radio, lacks a mute function, and cannot function as a power bank for charging other devices.
The ULT Field 1 supports stereo pairing, allowing two compatible units to be paired together to produce a stereo sound configuration.
