TCL 503

The TCL 503 has a height of 163.9 mm and a width of 75.5 mm, giving it a fairly tall and slim footprint, while its 8.9 mm thickness keeps the profile relatively slender for everyday handling. It weighs 185.5 g and occupies a volume of 110.13 cm³. The device does not feature a rugged build and cannot be folded, making it a standard candy-bar form factor smartphone.

The TCL 503 features a 6.6-inch LCD IPS touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1612 px and a pixel density of 267 ppi, delivering a reasonably sharp image across its large panel. Typical brightness is rated at 350 nits, providing adequate visibility in standard lighting conditions. The display does not include branded damage-resistant glass, and it does not support HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, or an Always-On Display mode. There is no secondary screen, keeping the device to a single-display configuration.

The TCL 503 is powered by the Unisoc SC9863A chipset, an octa-core SoC built on a 28 nm process with a big.LITTLE configuration running four cores at 1.6 GHz and four at 1.2 GHz across 8 threads, and a thermal design power of 3W. It comes with 3GB of DDR4 RAM at 933 MHz and 64GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage, with the SoC supporting a maximum of 6GB of RAM and a peak memory bandwidth of 7.464 GB/s across two memory channels. Graphics are handled by the integrated PowerVR GE8322 GPU, which has 4 execution units and 128 shading units, a base clock of 550 MHz with a turbo frequency of 800 MHz, and support for DirectX 11, OpenGL ES 3.2, and OpenCL 2. The SoC also includes integrated LTE and supports 64-bit processing. Benchmark results include a Geekbench 6 multi-core score of 725, a Geekbench 5 multi-core score of 2956, and a PassMark score of 1327, with an L3 cache of 0.512 MB rounding out the chipset specifications.

The TCL 503 carries a single 8 MP rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture and a CMOS sensor, capable of recording video at 1080p and 30 fps, along with slow-motion video support. It does not include optical image stabilization, a BSI sensor, optical zoom, laser autofocus, or a dual-tone LED flash, relying instead on a single LED flash unit. On the autofocus side, the main camera supports both phase-detection autofocus for stills and continuous autofocus during video recording, as well as touch autofocus. Manual controls cover exposure, ISO, focus, and white balance, while burst mode, HDR, and in-camera panorama shooting are also available, though manual shutter speed and RAW capture are not supported. The 5 MP front camera features an f/2.2 aperture but lacks a front-facing flash, a secondary lens, and is not positioned under the display. Neither HDR10 recording, Dolby Vision recording, 360-degree panorama, RGB flash, nor 3D photo and video capabilities are present on this device.

The TCL 503 runs Android 14, a free and open-source platform that supports multi-user accounts, split-screen multitasking, Picture-in-Picture, widgets, dark mode, dynamic theming, and theme customization. Privacy features include clipboard warnings, location privacy options, camera and microphone access controls, and the ability to block app tracking, though cross-site tracking blocking and Mail Privacy Protection are not available. The OS also includes on-device machine learning, offline voice recognition, voice commands, customizable notifications with a media picker, full-page scrolling screenshots, Live Text selection, an extra dim mode, battery health check, a child lock, sharing intents, and device position tracking. Games can be played while downloading, and the system supports phone tracking. However, focus modes, Wi-Fi password sharing, app offloading, direct OS vendor updates, and Quick Start are not supported.

The TCL 503 is equipped with a 5000 mAh rechargeable battery that supports fast charging at 10W, and a charger is included in the box. A battery level indicator is present for monitoring charge status. The battery is not removable, and wireless charging is not supported.

The TCL 503 includes a 3.5 mm headphone jack, offering wired audio connectivity. It does not feature stereo speakers, outputting audio through a single speaker instead. On the wireless audio side, none of the advanced Bluetooth codec standards are supported, including aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, and LDAC.

The TCL 503 supports cellular connectivity with a dual SIM configuration, though 5G is not available. Wireless networking runs on Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n), and Bluetooth 4.2 is on board for short-range connections. The device connects via a USB Type-C port running USB 2.0, and an external memory slot is available for storage expansion. Maximum download and upload speeds are rated at 300 Mbits/s and 150 Mbits/s respectively. Location is handled through GPS with Galileo support, and an accelerometer is included among the sensors, while a gyroscope, compass, barometer, and infrared sensor are absent. The device features a fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication, but does not support 3D facial recognition or an iris scanner, and no stylus is included. NFC, DLNA certification, ANT+, HDMI output, heart rate monitoring, crash detection, emergency SOS via satellite, and a built-in projector are all not supported.

The TCL 503 includes a video light, which can be used to illuminate scenes during video recording. The display is flat and uses neither sapphire glass nor an e-paper panel.
