Tecno Pop 9 5G

The Tecno Pop 9 5G has a straightforward, non-folding design with dimensions of 165 mm in height, 77 mm in width, and a slim 8 mm thickness, resulting in a total volume of 101.64 cm³ and a weight of 189 g. It does not feature a rugged build, but it does carry an IP54 rating, meaning it offers a degree of protection against dust and water splashes in everyday conditions.

The Tecno Pop 9 5G features a 6.6″ IPS LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1612 px and a pixel density of 267 ppi, delivering reasonably detailed visuals for its size class. The panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate, contributing to smoother scrolling and more responsive interactions. It does not include branded damage-resistant glass, HDR10, HDR10+, or Dolby Vision support, and there is no Always-On Display mode or secondary screen.

The Tecno Pop 9 5G is driven by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300, a 6 nm octa-core chipset with 8 threads running at 2 x 2.4 GHz and 6 x 2 GHz, supported by 4 GB of DDR4 RAM at 2133 MHz and 128 GB of internal storage, with a maximum supported memory amount of 12 GB. The SoC integrates an Arm Mali-G57 MC2 GPU clocked at 950 MHz with DirectX 12 support, and employs big.LITTLE architecture alongside Heterogeneous Multi-Processing for workload efficiency. Memory bandwidth reaches up to 17.07 GB/s, and the cache hierarchy consists of 512 KB L1, 1 MB L2, and 2 MB L3. In benchmark testing, the chipset scores 463,000 on AnTuTu, 782 on Geekbench 6 single-core, and 2,012 on the multi-core test, while also integrating LTE directly on the SoC alongside full 64-bit and multithreading support.

The main camera on the Tecno Pop 9 5G is a single-lens 48 MP CMOS sensor with a pixel size of 0.8 µm, phase-detection autofocus, touch autofocus, and continuous autofocus during video recording, though it lacks optical image stabilization, laser autofocus, and a back-illuminated sensor. It records video at 1080p and 30 fps with slow-motion support, but does not support HDR10 or Dolby Vision recording, nor 3D capture. The camera system includes two flash LEDs, a built-in HDR mode, burst mode, panorama shooting, and manual controls for exposure, ISO, focus, and white balance, while manual shutter speed and RAW output are not available. The 8 MP front camera comes with its own LED flash and supports HDR, but uses a single lens and is not positioned under the display.

The Tecno Pop 9 5G runs Android 14 and comes with a broad set of privacy controls, including clipboard warnings, location privacy options, camera and microphone access management, and the ability to block app tracking, though cross-site tracking blocking and Mail Privacy Protection are not present. The software supports dynamic and manual theme customization, dark mode, an extra dim mode, customizable notifications, a media picker, widgets, split-screen multitasking, Picture-in-Picture, full-page screenshots, Live Text, sharing intents, and a child lock, while focus modes, app offloading, Wi-Fi password sharing, and Quick Start are not available. It also includes on-device machine learning, offline voice recognition, voice commands, phone tracking, multi-user support, a battery health check, and the ability to play games while they are downloading. Direct OS updates from the vendor are not supported, and the device cannot be used as a PC.

The Tecno Pop 9 5G is equipped with a 5000 mAh rechargeable battery that is non-removable and supports 18W fast charging, though wireless charging is not available. A battery level indicator is included, keeping the user informed of remaining charge at a glance.

The Tecno Pop 9 5G includes a 3.5 mm headphone jack and stereo speakers for audio output. On the wireless audio side, none of the advanced Bluetooth codec standards — aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, or LDAC — are supported.

The Tecno Pop 9 5G supports 5G connectivity alongside Wi-Fi, GPS with Galileo support, NFC, and a cellular module, and accommodates two SIM cards while also offering an external memory slot for expandable storage. It connects via USB Type-C and reaches download speeds of up to 3300 MBits/s. A fingerprint scanner handles biometric authentication, while 3D facial recognition and an iris scanner are not present. The device includes an accelerometer but does not feature a barometer, infrared sensor, heart rate monitor, or any motion or optical tracking capabilities. Features such as DLNA certification, ANT+ support, HDMI output, satellite emergency SOS, crash detection, a built-in projector, and a stylus are all absent.

The Tecno Pop 9 5G includes a video light to assist with recording in low-light conditions. The display is flat rather than curved, and the device uses neither sapphire glass nor an e-paper panel.
