Tecno Spark 40 (128GB / 6GB RAM)

The Tecno Spark 40 has a slim build measuring 165.6 mm tall, 77 mm wide, and just 7.7 mm thick, with an overall volume of 98.18 cm³. It is not a rugged or foldable device, but it does carry an IP64 rating, meaning it offers protection against dust ingress and resistance to water splashes from any direction.

The Tecno Spark 40 features a 6.67″ IPS LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1600 px and a pixel density of 263 ppi. It supports a 120 Hz touch sampling rate, which contributes to more responsive touch input during everyday use. The display does not include branded damage-resistant glass, and it lacks support for HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and Always-On Display functionality. There is no secondary screen on this device.

The Tecno Spark 40 is powered by the MediaTek Helio G81 Ultra, a 12 nm chipset with an octa-core CPU configuration running at 2 x 2 GHz and 6 x 1.8 GHz with a turbo clock of 2 GHz, backed by big.LITTLE technology and a 5W TDP. The SoC contains 5,500 million transistors, integrates LTE, supports 64-bit processing, and includes ARM TrustZone security. Graphics are handled by the Mali G52 MP2 GPU, which features 2 execution units, 32 shading units, a turbo frequency of 950 MHz, and supports DirectX 12, OpenGL 3.2, OpenGL ES 3.2, and OpenCL 2.0. The device comes with 6 GB of DDR4 RAM running at 1800 MHz across 2 memory channels, offering a maximum memory bandwidth of 13.41 GB/s and support for up to 8 GB, alongside 128 GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage. Cache consists of 0.3 MB L2 and 1 MB L3, and Geekbench 6 scores sit at 420 single-core and 1391 multi-core, with Geekbench 5 results of 350 and 1300 respectively.

The Tecno Spark 40 features a single 50 MP rear camera built on a CMOS sensor, without a BSI sensor or optical image stabilization. Autofocus options include phase-detection and touch autofocus, as well as continuous autofocus during video recording, though laser autofocus is absent. Manual controls cover exposure, ISO, focus, and white balance, while burst mode and in-camera panorama are also supported; manual shutter speed, HDR mode, slow-motion video, timelapse, and RAW capture are not available. Video recording reaches up to 1440 x 30 fps from the main camera, with no HDR10 or Dolby Vision recording support. The rear flash uses 2 LED units in a single-tone configuration, with no dual-tone or RGB flash. On the front, an 8 MP single-lens camera is present without a dedicated flash, and it is not positioned under the display. Neither 360-degree panorama nor 3D photo or video recording is supported.

The Tecno Spark 40 runs Android 15 and includes a broad set of privacy controls, among them clipboard warnings, location privacy options, camera and microphone access management, and the ability to block app tracking, though cross-site tracking blocking and Mail Privacy Protection are not present. On the customization side, the OS supports dark mode, dynamic theming, theme customization, widgets, and customizable notifications, while focus modes and Wi-Fi password sharing are absent. Multitasking features include split-screen support, Picture-in-Picture, app offloading, full-page scrolling screenshots, a media picker, and the ability to play games while they are still downloading. The device also supports on-device machine learning, offline voice recognition, voice commands, Live Text, sharing intents, phone tracking, a child lock, multi-user mode, and a battery health check. Direct OS updates from the vendor are not supported, and the Quick Start feature is unavailable.

The Tecno Spark 40 houses a 5200 mAh rechargeable battery with a battery level indicator and supports 45W wired fast charging, with a charger included in the box. The battery is not removable, and wireless charging is not supported.

The Tecno Spark 40 includes a 3.5 mm headphone jack and stereo speakers for audio output. It does not support any high-quality Bluetooth audio codecs — aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, and LDAC are all absent — and there is no built-in radio.

The Tecno Spark 40 supports 4G cellular connectivity — there is no 5G — and accommodates two SIM cards alongside an external memory slot for expandable storage. It includes USB Type-C, Wi-Fi, GPS with Galileo support, and an accelerometer, but lacks NFC, HDMI output, an infrared sensor, a barometer, and ANT+ support. Download speeds reach up to 300 Mbits/s with uploads capped at 100 Mbits/s. A fingerprint scanner handles biometric authentication, while 3D facial recognition and an iris scanner are not present. Safety and tracking features such as emergency SOS via satellite, crash detection, and motion or optical tracking are absent, and no heart rate monitor, stylus, built-in projector, or DLNA certification is included.

The Tecno Spark 40 includes a video light for illumination during video recording. The display is flat rather than curved, uses neither sapphire glass nor an e-paper panel.
