Umidigi G9A

The Umidigi G9A has a conventional, non-folding form factor with no rugged build certification and no water resistance. It measures 167.2 mm in height, 77 mm in width, and 7.9 mm in thickness, giving it a total volume of roughly 101.71 cm³. The device weighs 189 g, which is fairly typical for a smartphone of its screen size.

The Umidigi G9A features a 6.75″ LCD IPS touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and a pixel density of 260 ppi. The display does not include branded damage-resistant glass, and it lacks support for HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision. There is no Always-On Display mode and no secondary screen. The panel is a straightforward single touchscreen without any advanced display enhancements.

The Umidigi G9A is powered by the Unisoc SC9863A, an octa-core SoC built on a 28 nm process that uses big.LITTLE technology, pairing four cores at 1.6 GHz with four cores at 1.2 GHz across 8 threads, with a thermal design power of 3W. It comes with 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM running at 933 MHz across two memory channels, a maximum memory bandwidth of 7.464 GB/s, and 64 GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage, with support for up to 6 GB of RAM. The chip includes integrated LTE and an integrated PowerVR GE8322 GPU with 4 execution units, 128 shading units, a base clock of 550 MHz, and a turbo clock of 800 MHz, supporting DirectX 11, OpenGL ES 3.2, and OpenCL 2.0. The SoC is 64-bit capable and carries an L3 cache of 0.512 MB. Benchmark results include a Geekbench 6 multi-core score of 725 and a single-core score of 164, Geekbench 5 scores of 2956 multi-core and 901 single-core, a PassMark score of 1327, and a single-core PassMark of 478.

The Umidigi G9A has a dual-lens rear camera system combining a 13 MP and a 2 MP sensor, using a CMOS sensor without back-side illumination. It supports phase-detection autofocus for photos, touch autofocus, continuous autofocus during video, and manual controls for exposure, ISO, focus, and white balance, though manual shutter speed is not available. The main camera records video at 1080p and 30 fps with slow-motion support, while HDR mode, burst shooting, panorama, and timelapse are all included; HDR10 and Dolby Vision recording are not supported. There is no optical zoom and no optical image stabilization. A single LED flash is present on the rear, with no dual-tone or RGB flash option. The 8 MP front camera has an aperture of f/2 and is a single-lens unit with no front-facing flash and no under-display placement. Raw file capture and 360-degree panorama shooting are not available, nor is 3D photo or video recording.

The Umidigi G9A runs Android 14, which is free and open source, and supports multi-user accounts, split-screen multitasking, Picture-in-Picture, widgets, sharing intents, and a child lock. On the privacy side, it offers clipboard warnings, location privacy options, camera and microphone access controls, and the ability to block app tracking, though Mail Privacy Protection and cross-site tracking blocking are not included. Customization options cover dark mode, dynamic theming, and theme customization, while usability features include a media picker, full-page screenshots, customizable notifications, notification permission controls, an extra dim mode, battery health check, on-device machine learning, offline voice recognition, and voice commands. The device also supports phone tracking and can play games while they are downloading. Focus modes, Wi-Fi password sharing, app offloading, Quick Start, and the ability to function as a PC are not available, and direct OS updates from the vendor are not provided.

The Umidigi G9A is equipped with a 5000 mAh rechargeable, non-removable battery that includes a battery level indicator. It supports fast charging at 10W, and a charger is included in the box. Wireless charging is not available.

The Umidigi G9A includes a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a built-in FM radio, but it does not feature stereo speakers. On the wireless audio side, none of the advanced Bluetooth codecs are supported, including aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, and LDAC.

The Umidigi G9A supports Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) and Bluetooth 4.2, and accommodates two SIM cards alongside an external memory slot for expandable storage. It connects via USB Type-C at USB 2.0 speeds and offers cellular connectivity with a maximum download speed of 300 Mbit/s and upload speed of 150 Mbit/s, though 5G is not supported. For location, the device includes GPS with Galileo support, a compass, and an accelerometer, while a gyroscope, barometer, and heart rate monitor are all absent. NFC, DLNA certification, ANT+, infrared sensor, HDMI output, and a fingerprint scanner are not included, nor are 3D facial recognition, an iris scanner, motion tracking, optical tracking, crash detection, emergency SOS via satellite, or a built-in projector. No stylus is included with the device.

The Umidigi G9A includes a video light for recording in low-light conditions. The display is flat rather than curved, and it uses neither sapphire glass nor an e-paper panel.
