Despite the absence of a rugged build, it carries an IP68 ingress protection rating, meaning it is fully waterproof and rated to withstand submersion at depths of up to 6 m.

The Vivo Y21d features a 6.68″ IPS LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1608 px and a pixel density of 264 ppi, paired with a 90Hz refresh rate for smoother on-screen motion. The panel is protected by branded damage-resistant glass, though it does not support HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, or an Always-On Display mode, and there is no secondary screen present.

The Vivo Y21d is powered by the Unisoc T7225 chipset, built on a 12 nm process with an 8-thread octa-core CPU running at 1.8 GHz across all cores using big.LITTLE architecture, complemented by a Mali G57 MP1 GPU with 2 execution units, 32 shading units, and a turbo clock of 614.4 MHz. The SoC supports 64-bit processing, integrated LTE, TrustZone security, DirectX 11, and OpenCL 2.0, with integrated graphics handling visual output. A child lock and battery health check are also included, whereas Wi-Fi password sharing, focus modes, Quick Start, and direct OS vendor updates are not supported.

The Vivo Y21d is equipped with a 6500 mAh rechargeable, non-removable battery that supports 44W wired fast charging, and a charger is included in the box. A battery level indicator is present, though wireless charging and reverse wireless charging are not supported.

The Vivo Y21d includes stereo speakers but omits a 3.5 mm headphone jack and has no built-in radio. Bluetooth audio codec support is limited, with no aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, or LDAC available.

The Vivo Y21d includes a video light for illumination during video recording, while the display is flat rather than curved and uses neither sapphire glass nor an e-paper panel.
