It measures 165.7 x 76.3 x 8.1 mm with a volume of roughly 102.41 cm³, and the spec sheet lists its weight at 8.1 g. On the protection side, the device holds an IP64 rating, meaning it is certified to resist dust ingress and can handle water splashes from any direction, making it water resistant in everyday situations.

The Vivo Y39 5G uses a 6.68″ IPS LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1608 px and a pixel density of 264 ppi. One of its more notable display traits is a 120Hz refresh rate, which keeps scrolling and on-screen motion fluid. The panel does not support HDR10, HDR10+, or Dolby Vision, and there is no Always-On Display mode or secondary screen. It also lacks branded damage-resistant glass.

The Vivo Y39 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, a 4 nm octa-core chipset configured as 2 cores at 2.3 GHz and 6 cores at 2 GHz using big.LITTLE technology, with a thermal design power of 4W. It comes with 8GB of DDR5 RAM running at 3200 MHz and 128GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage, with the platform supporting a maximum of 16GB of memory. Graphics are handled by the integrated Adreno 613 GPU clocked at 955 MHz, which supports DirectX 12, OpenGL ES 3.2, and OpenCL 2, and can drive up to two displays simultaneously. The SoC also integrates LTE, supports 64-bit processing, and includes ARM TrustZone for hardware-level security.

The Vivo Y39 5G features a dual-lens rear camera system led by a 50 MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, paired with a 2 MP secondary lens at f/2.4, both using a CMOS sensor without back-side illumination. Autofocus options include phase-detection and touch autofocus as well as continuous autofocus during video recording, though laser autofocus is absent. The rear camera supports manual controls for exposure, ISO, focus, and white balance, along with HDR mode, burst shooting, panorama, timelapse, and slow-motion video, while video recording tops out at 1080p at 30 fps with no HDR10 or Dolby Vision recording support. There is no optical zoom and no optical image stabilization. Two LED flash units are present at the rear, though they do not form a dual-tone or RGB configuration. On the front, an 8 MP single-lens camera with an f/2.0 aperture handles selfies — it has no dedicated flash and is not positioned under the display.

The Vivo Y39 5G runs Android 15 and covers a broad range of software features across privacy, usability, and customization. On the privacy side, it offers clipboard warnings, location privacy controls, camera and microphone access management, and the ability to block app tracking, though cross-site tracking blocking and Mail Privacy Protection are not included. The interface supports dark mode, dynamic theming, theme customization, widgets, and an extra dim mode, while focus modes and Quick Start are absent. Practical tools include split-screen multitasking, Picture-in-Picture, full-page screenshots, a media picker, customizable notifications, sharing intents, a child lock, and the ability to offload apps or play games while they download. The device also supports on-device machine learning, offline voice recognition, voice commands, phone tracking, and multi-user operation. OS updates do not come directly from the platform vendor, and the device cannot function as a PC replacement. Wi-Fi password sharing is not available.

The Vivo Y39 5G is equipped with a 6500 mAh rechargeable battery that supports 44W wired fast charging, and a charger is included in the box. A battery level indicator is present, making it straightforward to monitor charge status. Wireless charging is not supported, and the battery is not user-removable.

The Vivo Y39 5G retains a 3.5 mm headphone jack, allowing wired headphones to be used without an adapter. However, the device is limited to a single speaker with no stereo speaker configuration. On the wireless audio side, none of the advanced Bluetooth codecs are supported — aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, and LDAC are all absent. There is also no built-in radio tuner.

The Vivo Y39 5G supports 5G connectivity along with Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) and Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), and accommodates two SIM cards simultaneously. There is no external memory slot, no HDMI output, and no DLNA certification. For location and navigation, the device includes GPS with Galileo support alongside a compass, and onboard sensors cover a gyroscope and accelerometer, though a barometer, infrared sensor, heart rate monitor, and motion or optical tracking are all absent. Security options include a fingerprint scanner, while 3D facial recognition and an iris scanner are not featured. ANT+ is not supported, no stylus is included, and the device lacks both crash detection and emergency SOS via satellite. A built-in projector is also not present.

The Vivo Y39 5G includes a video light, which can be used to illuminate subjects during video recording. The display is flat rather than curved, uses neither sapphire glass nor an e-paper panel.
