Despite the absence of a dedicated rugged build, it carries an IP69 ingress protection rating with a waterproof depth rating of 6 metres, offering substantial resistance to water intrusion in demanding conditions.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra features a 6.9″ OLED/AMOLED touchscreen with a resolution of 1200 x 2608 px and a pixel density of 416 ppi, paired with a 120Hz refresh rate and a typical brightness of 1200 nits. The display supports HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision for broad high dynamic range coverage, and includes an Always-On Display mode for at-a-glance information. It is protected by branded damage-resistant glass and does not feature a secondary screen.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 built on a 3nm process, featuring an octa-core CPU with 8 threads running at up to 2 x 4.6 GHz and 6 x 3.62 GHz using big.LITTLE architecture with HMP, alongside an Adreno 830 GPU clocked at 1200 MHz with 1536 shading units and support for up to 2 displays. The chipset includes integrated LTE, integrated graphics, TrustZone security, multithreading, and compatibility with DirectX 12, OpenGL 3.2, OpenGL ES 3.2, and OpenCL 3. It is paired with 12GB of DDR5 RAM at 5300 MHz across 2 memory channels, a maximum memory bandwidth of 85.1 GB/s, ECC memory support, and a maximum addressable memory of 24GB, complemented by 512GB of internal storage. Cache consists of 192 KB L1, 12 MB L2, and 8 MB L3, while the SoC operates within a TDP of 8.2W. Benchmark results include an AnTuTu score of 3,963,774, a Geekbench 6 single-core score of 3,530, and a Geekbench 6 multi-core score of 10,990.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra carries a multi-lens rear camera system with three CMOS sensors rated at 200 MP, 50 MP, and 50 MP with apertures of f/2.4, f/2.2, and f/1.7 respectively, covering a focal range of 14 mm to 100 mm and offering 4.3x optical zoom, though optical image stabilization is not included. Video recording reaches up to 4320 x 60 fps, with slow-motion and timelapse modes available, while HDR10 recording and Dolby Vision recording are not supported. Autofocus options include phase-detection, laser, touch, and continuous autofocus during video, and manual controls extend to exposure, ISO, shutter speed, white balance, and focus, with RAW shooting and burst mode also on hand. The rear flash uses a dual-tone, two-LED arrangement without RGB capability, and in-camera panorama is supported while 360-degree panorama and 3D capture are not. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra runs Android 16, a free and open-source platform that supports multi-user operation, split-screen multitasking, Picture-in-Picture, widgets, sharing intents, and the ability to play games while they download. Privacy tooling includes clipboard warnings, location privacy options, camera and microphone access controls, and app tracking blocking, though Mail Privacy Protection and cross-site tracking blocking are absent. Personalisation features cover theme customisation, dynamic theming, dark mode, and an extra dim mode, while productivity is aided by Live Text, full-page screenshots, customisable notifications, notification permission controls, a media picker, and app offloading. On-device machine learning, offline voice recognition, and voice commands are all present, as are battery health monitoring and device position tracking. OS updates do not arrive directly from the vendor, and focus modes, Wi-Fi password sharing, Quick Start, and a smartphone-to-PC desktop mode are not available.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra houses a 6800 mAh rechargeable, non-removable battery with a built-in charge level indicator. Wired fast charging tops out at 90W, while wireless charging is supported at up to 50W, and the device can also act as a wireless charger for other devices at 10W via reverse wireless charging.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra includes stereo speakers but omits a 3.5 mm headphone jack and does not have a built-in radio. For wireless audio, it supports aptX, aptX HD, and aptX Adaptive, though aptX Lossless and LDAC are not available.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra supports 5G cellular connectivity with download speeds of up to 10,000 Mbit/s and upload speeds of up to 3,500 Mbit/s, accommodates two SIM cards, and connects wirelessly via Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) alongside Wi-Fi 4, 5, 6, and 6E. Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and a USB Type-C 3.2 port handle short-range and wired connections, while an external memory slot and HDMI output are not available. Satellite emergency SOS is supported, though crash detection is absent. Sensors include a fingerprint scanner, gyroscope, accelerometer, compass, barometer, infrared sensor, and GPS with Galileo support, while a heart rate monitor, ANT+, iris scanner, 3D facial recognition, motion tracking, optical tracking, and a built-in projector are all absent. A stylus is not included.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra includes a video light for illuminating footage during recording, while its display is flat rather than curved and uses neither sapphire glass nor an e-paper panel.
