The Xiaomi Redmi Buds 8 Lite use an in-ear fit and are fully true wireless, meaning there are no cables or neckband involved. Each earbud weighs just 9 g, and the design does not include wingtips, RGB lighting, a display, or UV light. They carry an IP54 ingress protection rating, which covers resistance to sweat, making them suitable for active use. Stereo speakers are present across the pair, delivering two-channel audio playback.
The Redmi Buds 8 Lite include both active noise cancellation (ANC) and passive noise reduction, giving the earbuds two layers of sound isolation. Audio is handled by a 12.4 mm driver unit with an impedance of 32 Ohms, covering a frequency range from 20 Hz up to 20,000 Hz. The earbuds do not feature a neodymium magnet, and there is no support for spatial audio, Dolby Atmos, or Dirac Virtuo processing.
The Redmi Buds 8 Lite carry a rechargeable 45 mAh battery per earbud, providing up to 8 hours of battery life on a single charge, while the 475 mAh charging case extends the total to 28 hours. A full charge takes 1.5 hours, and a battery level indicator is included to keep track of remaining power. Charging is handled via cable only, as neither wireless charging nor solar power is supported.
The Redmi Buds 8 Lite connect wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.4 with a maximum range of 10 m, and fast pairing is supported for quicker device setup. The AAC codec is available for audio transmission, though higher-tier codecs including LDAC, LDHC, aptX and all its variants, as well as Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast, are not supported. NFC pairing is also absent. The charging case uses a USB Type-C port, and the earbuds can only be used wirelessly with no wired audio option.
The Redmi Buds 8 Lite support ambient sound mode, allowing environmental audio to pass through when needed, and a mute function is available for quick silencing during calls. They can be used as a headset and include voice prompts, while controls are handled via a panel placed on the device rather than an in-line control panel on a cable. Fast charging is supported, and a travel bag is included in the box. The earbuds do not offer in/on-ear detection, notification reading, a built-in translator, a temperature sensor, or a camera remote shutter function.
The Redmi Buds 8 Lite are equipped with a total of 4 microphones, and noise cancellation is applied to the mic array to help reduce background sound during calls and voice input.
