The Asus B860M-E is built around the LGA 1851 socket and the B860 chipset, housed in a Micro-ATX form factor measuring 244 mm by 222 mm. It supports a single CPU and does not include an integrated CPU or integrated graphics. The board features dual BIOS along with an easy CMOS reset option, simplifying firmware recovery and updates. Overclocking is supported, though the board lacks Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and RGB lighting. Video output is handled through an HDMI 1.4 connector, and the board comes with a three-year warranty.
The board accommodates DDR5 memory across two slots in a dual-channel configuration, supporting a maximum capacity of 128GB. Overclocked RAM speeds can reach up to 8800 MHz, offering notable headroom for memory performance tuning. ECC memory is not supported.
The rear I/O panel provides a total of six USB ports: one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, and three USB 2.0 ports. There are no USB Type-C ports of any kind, and higher-bandwidth standards such as USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, USB 4, Thunderbolt 3, and Thunderbolt 4 are absent. For display output, the board includes a single HDMI port, while DisplayPort, DVI, and VGA connectors are not present. Wired networking is covered by one RJ45 port, and there are no eSATA or PS/2 ports.
Internal connectivity includes four SATA 3 connectors for storage devices, alongside one M.2 socket for faster solid-state drives. Additional USB expansion is available through two USB 3.2 Gen 1 headers, two USB 3.0 headers, and four USB 2.0 headers, allowing front-panel and bracket-mounted ports to be added as needed. Three fan headers are present for cooling management. There are no U.2 sockets, no mSATA connector, no SATA 2 connectors, and no TPM connector on this board.
The board offers one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot as its primary expansion lane, suitable for a discrete graphics card or other full-bandwidth add-in cards. Two PCIe x1 slots provide additional room for smaller expansion cards. No PCIe 5.0 x16, PCIe 3.0 x16, PCIe 2.0 x16, PCIe x4, PCIe x8, or legacy PCI slots are present.
The board supports 7.1 surround audio and provides three analog audio connectors for connecting speakers, headphones, and microphones. There is no S/PDIF Out port available for digital audio output.
The board supports RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10, covering a reasonable range of configurations for performance, redundancy, and combined setups. RAID 0+1 is not supported.
