The Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite X3D Ice is an ATX motherboard measuring 305 × 244 mm, built around a single AM5 socket and compatible with the X870 chipset. It supports Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) along with earlier Wi-Fi standards back to 802.11n, and includes Bluetooth 5.4, though aptX is not supported. Video output is handled through an HDMI 2.1 port, while integrated graphics and an integrated CPU are not present on this board. Overclocking is facilitated through a straightforward interface, and the board features RGB lighting as well as an easy BIOS reset option via a clear CMOS function; dual BIOS, however, is not included. The board carries a 3-year warranty and does not include a second CPU socket.
The board supports DDR5 memory across four slots arranged in a dual-channel configuration, with a maximum capacity of 256 GB. Standard RAM speeds top out at 5200 MHz, while overclocking headroom extends up to 9000 MHz for users looking to push memory performance further. ECC memory is not supported.
The rear I/O offers a broad range of USB connectivity, including five USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, and one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port. At the higher end, there are two USB 4 40Gbps ports and two Thunderbolt 4 ports, while USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, USB 4 20Gbps, Thunderbolt 3, and USB 2.0 ports are absent. Video output is limited to a single HDMI port; DisplayPort, DVI, and VGA outputs are not present. Network connectivity is handled by a single RJ45 port, and there are no eSATA or PS/2 ports.
Internal connectivity is well-provisioned, with four M.2 sockets and four SATA 3 connectors available for storage expansion; SATA 2, U.2, and mSATA connectors are not present. For additional USB expansion via headers, the board provides four USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, four USB 3.0 ports, four USB 2.0 ports, and one USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port. Cooling is supported through eight fan headers, and a TPM connector is also included for security module attachment.
The board offers a compact but focused set of expansion slots, anchored by one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for the primary graphics card, complemented by a single PCIe x4 slot for additional expansion cards. No PCIe 4.0, 3.0, 2.0, x16, x8, or x1 slots are present, and there are no legacy PCI slots.
The onboard audio solution supports 7.1-channel output and delivers a DAC signal-to-noise ratio of 120 dB, indicating a reasonably clean audio signal. Two audio connectors are available on the rear I/O, and an S/PDIF Out port is included for digital audio passthrough to external receivers or DACs.
The board supports RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 (1+0) configurations, covering the most common setups for both performance-oriented and redundancy-focused storage arrangements. RAID 0+1 is not supported.
