The Oppo A5i has a non-folding, non-rugged build measuring 165.7 mm tall, 76 mm wide, and 8 mm thick, with a total volume of 100.7456 cm³ and a weight of 186 g. A notable highlight of its construction is the IP65 rating, which certifies it as water resistant, offering meaningful protection against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets in everyday situations.

The Oppo A5i features a 6.67″ IPS LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1604 px and a pixel density of 264 ppi, paired with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 180Hz touch sampling rate for reasonably responsive input. Typical brightness is rated at 850 nits, and the panel is protected by branded damage-resistant glass. The display does not support HDR10, HDR10+, or Dolby Vision, and there is no Always-On Display mode or secondary screen.

The Oppo A5i is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, a 4 nm octa-core chipset running at 4 x 2.2 GHz and 4 x 1.8 GHz with 8 threads, supported by big.LITTLE architecture and Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) for workload distribution. It comes with 4GB of DDR5 RAM running at 2750 MHz and 64GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage, with a maximum supported memory amount of 12GB and a peak memory bandwidth of 22 GB/s across 2 channels. Graphics are handled by the integrated Adreno 710 GPU clocked at 800 MHz, featuring 128 shading units and support for DirectX 12, OpenGL ES 3.2, and OpenCL 2. The SoC also integrates LTE and includes TrustZone security, while cache is organized as 256 KB L1, 2 MB L2, and 2 MB L3. Geekbench 6 scores are recorded at 943 single-core and 2748 multi-core, and the chip operates within a 7W TDP envelope.

The Oppo A5i has a single-lens rear camera with an 8 MP CMOS sensor at f/2.0, backed by optical image stabilization and phase-detection autofocus for stills, along with touch autofocus and continuous autofocus during video recording. It records video at 1080p and 30 fps, with support for slow-motion recording, but does not support HDR10 or Dolby Vision recording. Manual controls include exposure, ISO, focus, and white balance, while burst mode, HDR, panorama, and timelapse round out the shooting options; there is no optical zoom, no RAW output, and no manual shutter speed control. A single LED flash is present on the rear, though it is neither dual-tone nor RGB. The front camera offers 5 MP at f/2.2 as a single-lens unit with no flash, and it is not positioned under the display.

The Oppo A5i runs Android 16 and includes a broad set of privacy controls, covering clipboard warnings, location privacy options, and camera and microphone access management, though it does not offer Mail Privacy Protection or cross-site tracking blocking. On the customization side, it supports dark mode, dynamic theming, theme customization, widgets, and customizable notifications, while focus modes and Quick Start are absent. Productivity features include split-screen multitasking, Picture-in-Picture, full-page scrolling screenshots, a media picker, Live Text, sharing intents, and the ability to play games while they download. The system also supports on-device machine learning, offline voice recognition, voice commands, multi-user accounts, app offloading, a child lock, battery health checks, an extra dim mode, and device position tracking. Direct OS updates from the vendor are not available, and the device cannot function as a PC; Wi-Fi password sharing is likewise not supported.

The Oppo A5i is equipped with a 5100 mAh rechargeable battery that supports 45W wired fast charging, and a charger is included in the box. A battery level indicator is present for monitoring charge status. The battery is non-removable, and the device does not support wireless charging or reverse wireless charging.

The Oppo A5i includes a 3.5 mm headphone jack and two microphones, but lacks stereo speakers, outputting audio through a single speaker instead. For wireless audio, it supports aptX, though higher-tier codecs such as aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, and LDAC are not available. There is no built-in radio.

The Oppo A5i includes a video light for use during video recording. The display is flat rather than curved, and the device uses neither sapphire glass nor an e-paper panel.
