The Panasonic Lumix DC-S1 II is a mirrorless system camera with a body measuring 134.3 × 102.3 × 91.8 mm and weighing 800 g, making it a substantial but manageable full-sized body. It features a 3.2″ flip-out touchscreen with a resolution of 1840k dots, offering flexible shooting angles alongside a 100% coverage electronic viewfinder (EVF); notably, the viewfinder does not tilt. The camera is weather-sealed and rated for operating temperatures between -10°C and 40°C, adding a layer of durability for varied environments. A hot shoe is included for attaching external flash units, though no built-in flash is present. The overall volume of the body is approximately 1261.23 cm³.
The S1 II is built around a full-frame stacked BSI CMOS sensor delivering 24.1 MP of resolution, paired with a Leica L lens mount. Autofocus is handled by a phase-detection system spanning 779 focus points, with AF tracking, touch autofocus, and manual focus all supported. In-body sensor-shift stabilization is rated at 8 stops (CIPA) and can be combined with compatible lens stabilization for added effectiveness. The native ISO range extends to 51200, with an expanded maximum of 204800, while full manual control over ISO, shutter speed, white balance, and exposure is available. The mechanical shutter reaches a fastest speed of 1/8000 s (0.000125 s), while the electronic shutter tops out at 1/16000 s (6.25E-5 s), and exposure times can extend up to 60 s. Burst shooting is supported at 10 fps via the mechanical shutter, complemented by a two-stage shutter and serial shot mode, with a flash sync speed of 1/250 s (0.004 s).
The S1 II records video at up to 3312 pixels wide at 60 fps, with a maximum bitrate of 1900 Mbps for high-detail footage. Phase-detection autofocus is available during video recording, supported by continuous AF to maintain subject tracking throughout a shot. A 24p cinema mode and slow-motion video recording are both included, along with a timelapse function. For audio, the camera houses two built-in stereo microphones and provides both a 3.5 mm microphone input and a 3.5 mm headset jack for external audio monitoring and capture.
The S1 II uses a removable, rechargeable battery with a capacity of 2400 mAh, rated for approximately 350 shots per charge according to CIPA standards. A battery level indicator is built in, allowing users to monitor remaining power during use.
The S1 II supports Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) alongside Bluetooth 5, enabling wireless connectivity and remote smartphone control. For physical connections, it includes a USB Type-C port and an HDMI output, while an external memory slot and dual card slots provide flexible storage options. The camera shoots in RAW format with support for lossless compressed RAW, though pixel shift shot is not available. NFC and GPS are not included, and there is no built-in location tagging or tap-to-connect functionality.
The S1 II features a USB 3.2 connection, enabling fast data transfer when offloading files to a computer or other compatible devices.
