The Xiaomi 17 has a non-folding, non-rugged design that measures 151.1 x 71.8 x 8 mm and weighs 191 g, giving it a volume of 86.79 cm³. It carries an IP68 rating, making it fully waterproof at depths of up to 1.5 m.

The Xiaomi 17 features a 6.3″ OLED/AMOLED touchscreen with a resolution of 1220 x 2656 px and a pixel density of 464 ppi, paired with a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling and interaction. The display supports HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision, and includes an Always-On Display mode along with branded damage-resistant glass. There is no secondary screen on this device.

The Xiaomi 17 is driven by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, built on a 3nm process with an 8-thread CPU running at 2 x 4.6 GHz and 6 x 3.62 GHz using big.LITTLE and HMP technology, alongside an Adreno 830 GPU clocked at 1200 MHz with 1536 shading units and support for DirectX 12, OpenGL 3.2, OpenGL ES 3.2, and OpenCL 3. The SoC includes integrated LTE, integrated graphics capable of driving 2 displays, TrustZone security, and a TDP of 8.2W. The device comes with 16GB of DDR5 RAM at 5300 MHz across 2 memory channels, a maximum memory capacity of 24GB, ECC memory support, and a maximum memory bandwidth of 85.1 GB/s, complemented by 512GB of internal storage. Cache configuration consists of 192 KB L1, 12 MB L2, and 8 MB L3, and the chipset supports 64-bit processing and multithreading. Geekbench 6 scores stand at 3234 single-core and 10059 multi-core.

The Xiaomi 17 features a triple rear camera system, each lens offering 50MP resolution with apertures of f/1.7, f/2, and f/2.4, covering a focal range of 17mm to 115mm and 2.6x optical zoom. The rear cameras use CMOS BSI sensors, optical image stabilization, and a combination of laser autofocus, phase-detection autofocus, continuous autofocus during video, and touch autofocus, while a dual-tone 2-LED flash provides lighting support — though RGB flash is not included. Video recording reaches up to 4320p at 30fps with HDR10 and Dolby Vision recording support, and slow-motion video is also available. Manual controls cover exposure, ISO, focus, and white balance, though manual shutter speed is not available; additional shooting modes include burst, panorama, and timelapse, while 360° panorama and 3D recording are not supported. On the front, a single 50MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture handles selfies — it is a single-lens unit, not under-display, and has no front-facing flash.

The Xiaomi 17 runs Android 16, a free and open-source multi-user operating system that supports on-device machine learning, offline voice recognition, voice commands, and device tracking. Privacy features include clipboard warnings, location privacy options, camera and microphone access controls, and the ability to block app tracking, though Mail Privacy Protection and cross-site tracking blocking are not available. The interface supports theme customization, dynamic theming, dark mode, extra dim mode, and widgets, while productivity is aided by split-screen multitasking, Picture-in-Picture, full-page screenshots, a media picker, sharing intents, customizable notifications, notification permission controls, Live Text, and the ability to play games while they download. App management is covered through app offloading and a child lock, and a battery health check tool is also present. Wi-Fi password sharing, focus modes, Quick Start, and the ability to use the device as a PC are not supported, and OS updates do not come directly from the vendor.

The Xiaomi 17 houses a 7000 mAh rechargeable, non-removable battery with a battery level indicator. It supports fast wired charging at 100W, wireless charging at 50W, and reverse wireless charging at 22.5W, with a charger included in the box.

The Xiaomi 17 includes stereo speakers and supports aptX, aptX HD, and aptX Adaptive for Bluetooth audio, though LDAC and aptX Lossless are not available. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack and no built-in radio.

The Xiaomi 17 supports 5G and accommodates two SIM cards, with wireless connectivity covering Wi-Fi 4, 5, 6, and 7 alongside Bluetooth 5.4 and NFC. It uses a USB Type-C port at USB 3.2 with download speeds of up to 10000 Mbit/s and upload speeds of up to 3500 Mbit/s, though there is no HDMI output, no external memory slot, and no DLNA certification. A fingerprint scanner handles biometric authentication, while 3D facial recognition and an iris scanner are not present, and no stylus is included. Sensors on board include a gyroscope, accelerometer, compass, barometer, infrared sensor, and GPS with Galileo support, whereas a heart rate monitor, ANT+, motion tracking, optical tracking, crash detection, satellite SOS, and a built-in projector are all absent.

The Xiaomi 17 includes a video light, while its display is flat rather than curved and uses neither sapphire glass nor an e-paper panel.
