The Focal Bathys MG is an over-ear headphone with a foldable design and a weight of 350 g, making it well-suited for travel, especially since a travel bag is included in the box. It uses a closed-back construction with stereo speakers and connects via a 1.2 m detachable, tangle-free cable when used in wired mode. The headphones offer no water resistance, and are not intended for children. There is no open-back design, keeping the listening experience self-contained.
The Focal Bathys MG uses a 40 mm neodymium driver with an impedance of 32 Ohms and a frequency range spanning 10 Hz to 22,000 Hz. It features both active noise cancellation and passive noise reduction, offering two complementary layers of sound isolation. Spatial audio is not supported on this model.
The Focal Bathys MG is equipped with a 1,060 mAh rechargeable battery offering 30 hours of battery life, with a full charge taking approximately 1.5 hours via USB Type-C. A battery level indicator is built in so remaining charge is easy to monitor. The battery is not removable, and neither wireless charging nor solar charging is supported.
The Focal Bathys MG supports both wireless and wired connectivity, with the wireless side handled by Bluetooth 5.2 across a maximum range of 10 m. Supported audio codecs include aptX Adaptive, aptX, and AAC, while LDAC, LDHC, aptX HD, aptX Low Latency, aptX Lossless, and Bluetooth LE Audio are not available. Auracast broadcast audio is also absent, and the headphones do not offer fast pairing or NFC-based pairing.
The Focal Bathys MG can be used as a headset, equipped with two noise-canceling microphones and an ambient sound mode that allows environmental audio to pass through when needed. Controls are handled via an on-device panel rather than an in-line cable control, and multipoint connectivity supports up to two simultaneous device connections. In/on-ear detection and a mute function are not included.
