The Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 use an in-ear fit and come with wingtips included to help keep them in place during use. Each earbud weighs just 11 g and the design is fully wire-free, with no neckband connecting the two units. They carry an IP54 rating, meaning they offer a degree of protection against dust and water splashes. Stereo speakers are built in, while features such as RGB lighting, a display, and UV light are not part of the design.
The FreeBuds Pro 5 include both active noise cancellation (ANC) and passive noise reduction, giving them two layers of isolation from ambient sound. The frequency response spans from 10 Hz at the low end up to 48,000 Hz at the high end, covering a wide audible and beyond-audible range. Spatial audio, Dolby Atmos, and Dirac Virtuo are not supported, and the drivers do not use a neodymium magnet.
Each earbud holds a 60 mAh rechargeable battery, delivering up to 9 hours of playback on a single charge, which drops to 6 hours when ANC is active. The charging case carries a 537 mAh cell, extending the total combined battery life to 29 hours. A full charge takes 1.5 hours, and a battery level indicator is included so users can keep track of remaining power. Wireless charging and solar charging are not supported.
The FreeBuds Pro 5 connect wirelessly over Bluetooth 6 with a maximum range of 10 m, and support the AAC and LDAC codecs for audio transmission. The charging case uses USB Type-C for wired charging. On the other hand, aptX in any of its variants — including aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX Low Latency, aptX Lossless, and aptX Voice — is not supported, nor are LDHC, Bluetooth LE Audio, Auracast, NFC pairing, or fast pairing.
The FreeBuds Pro 5 come with a practical set of features, including ambient sound mode, in/on-ear detection for automatic music pausing, and a find device function to help locate misplaced earbuds. They support fast charging, can connect to two devices at once via multipoint, and work as a headset for calls with a mute function available. Controls are handled through a panel on the device itself, and voice prompts are included, while a travel bag is also provided in the box. There is no in-line control panel, and the earbuds do not offer notification reading, a built-in translator, a temperature sensor, or a camera remote shutter function.
The FreeBuds Pro 5 are equipped with a noise-canceling microphone, which helps reduce background noise during calls and voice input.
