The MSI Pro B840M-P Wi-Fi 6E is built around the AM5 CPU socket and is compatible with the B840 chipset, housed in a Micro-ATX form factor measuring 243.8 x 243.8 mm. It supports a full range of wireless standards through its built-in Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) adapter, which is backward compatible with Wi-Fi 4, 5, and 6, and pairs that with Bluetooth 5.3 — though aptX audio codec support is not included. The board features HDMI 2.1 output, RGB lighting, and an easy BIOS reset via a dedicated clear CMOS function, and it also supports overclocking, though it does not have dual BIOS. There is a single CPU socket, no integrated graphics or integrated CPU, and the board carries a 3-year warranty.
This board uses DDR5 memory across four slots arranged in a dual-channel configuration, with a maximum supported capacity of 256 GB. Out of the box, RAM runs at up to 5600 MHz, and with overclocking enabled that ceiling rises to 8000 MHz. ECC memory is not supported.
The rear I/O offers a varied USB lineup consisting of one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, and four USB 2.0 ports; there are no USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C, Gen 2x2, USB 4, Thunderbolt 3, or Thunderbolt 4 ports present. Display output is handled solely by a single HDMI port, with no DisplayPort, DVI, or VGA connectors available. Networking is covered by one RJ45 port, and there are no eSATA or PS/2 ports included.
For internal expansion, the board provides two USB 3.2 Gen 1 headers and four USB 2.0 headers, while higher-speed internal USB options such as Gen 2, Gen 2x2, and USB-C Gen 2 are not available. Storage connectivity includes four SATA 3 connectors and two M.2 sockets, with no SATA 2, mSATA, or U.2 sockets present. Cooling is well catered for with five fan headers on board, and a TPM connector is also included for security module support.
Expansion options are modest but focused, with one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot serving as the primary slot for a discrete graphics card or similar full-length add-in card, alongside one PCIe x1 slot for smaller peripherals. There are no PCIe 5.0, 3.0, or 2.0 x16 slots, and no PCIe x4, x8, or legacy PCI slots are present.
The onboard audio supports 7.1-channel surround sound and is accessible through three analog audio connectors on the rear I/O. There is no S/PDIF digital output port included.
The board supports RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 10 configurations for flexible storage setup, whether the priority is performance, redundancy, or a combination of both. RAID 5 and RAID 0+1 are not supported.
