The Asus X870 Max Gaming Wi-Fi7 is built around the AM5 socket with X870 chipset compatibility and follows the standard ATX form factor, measuring 305 mm wide and 244 mm tall. It supports a single CPU and has no integrated processor or onboard graphics. Wireless connectivity covers a wide range of standards, from Wi-Fi 4 through to Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be), and Bluetooth 5.4 is included, though aptX is not supported. The board features RGB lighting and overclock support, while dual BIOS and easy BIOS reset are not available. Video output is handled through an HDMI 2.1 port, and the board carries a three-year warranty.
This motherboard uses DDR5 memory across four slots arranged in a dual-channel configuration, supporting a maximum capacity of 256 GB. Overclocked RAM speeds can reach up to 8000 MHz, offering headroom for performance-oriented memory kits. ECC memory is not supported.
The rear I/O panel offers a varied USB selection, including two USB 4 40Gbps ports and two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, and four USB 2.0 ports. USB Type-C is present, though there are no USB 3.2 Gen 2 or Gen 1 Type-C ports, and no USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 or USB 4 20Gbps ports. Display output is limited to a single HDMI port, with no DisplayPort, DVI, or VGA connectors available. Networking is handled by one RJ45 port, and there are no eSATA or PS/2 ports.
Internal connectivity includes three M.2 sockets and four SATA 3 connectors for storage, while SATA 2, mSATA, and U.2 are not available. USB expansion headers cover two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, two additional USB 3.0 ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port, and four USB 2.0 ports. A TPM connector is present for security module attachment. Cooling is supported through six fan headers.
The board provides four PCIe x16 slots in total: one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, two PCIe 4.0 x16 slots, and one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot. There are no PCIe 2.0 x16, PCIe x8, PCIe x1, or legacy PCI slots present.
The onboard audio solution supports 7.1-channel output and provides three analog audio connectors. There is no S/PDIF Out port available.
The board supports RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 (1+0) configurations, covering a practical range of performance and redundancy setups. RAID 0+1 is not supported.
