The Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite X3D Ice is built around a single AM5 socket and is compatible with the X870 chipset, housed in a standard ATX form factor measuring 305 mm wide and 244 mm tall. It supports Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) along with older Wi-Fi standards going back to Wi-Fi 4, and includes Bluetooth 5.4, though aptX is not supported. The board features an HDMI 2.1 output, RGB lighting, and is noted as easy to overclock, with a clear CMOS function for straightforward BIOS resets. It does not include a dual BIOS, integrated graphics, or an integrated CPU, and carries a three-year warranty.
The board supports DDR5 memory across four slots arranged in a dual-channel configuration, with a maximum supported capacity of 256GB. Standard RAM speeds reach up to 5200 MHz, while overclocked profiles can push as high as 9000 MHz. ECC memory is not supported.
The rear I/O panel provides a wide range of connectivity options, including two USB 4 40Gbps ports and two Thunderbolt 4 ports, alongside two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, and a single USB 2.0 port. There is no USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, USB 4 20Gbps, or Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. Video output is handled by a single HDMI port, with no DisplayPort, DVI, or VGA outputs present. Networking is covered by one RJ45 port, and there are no eSATA or PS/2 ports included.
For internal expansion, the board includes four M.2 sockets and two SATA 3 connectors, with no SATA 2, U.2, or mSATA connectivity available. Additional USB headers allow for four USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, four USB 3.0 ports, four USB 2.0 ports, and one USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port through expansion. Cooling is well catered for with eight fan headers, and a TPM connector is also present on the board.
The board offers a modest but focused set of expansion slots, consisting of one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot and one PCIe x4 slot. There are no PCIe 4.0, 3.0, or 2.0 x16 slots, and no PCIe x1, PCIe x8, or legacy PCI slots are present.
The onboard audio supports 7.1-channel output and delivers a DAC signal-to-noise ratio of 120 dB, with two audio connectors available on the rear panel. An S/PDIF Out port is also included for digital audio output.
The board supports RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 configurations for flexible storage setup and redundancy options, while RAID 0+1 is not supported.
