The Huawei FreeBuds 7i use an in-ear fit and are fully true wireless, with no cables or neckband involved. Each earbud weighs 10.8 g and is rated IP54, offering resistance to sweat and light moisture. Stereo speakers are present on both sides, while the design omits wingtips, RGB lighting, a UV light, and any built-in display, keeping the form factor straightforward and uncluttered.
The FreeBuds 7i include both active noise cancellation and passive noise reduction, giving the earbuds two layers of sound isolation. Audio is handled by an 11 mm driver unit with a frequency range spanning 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, and spatial audio is supported for a wider perceived soundstage. The earbuds do not feature a neodymium magnet, and neither Dolby Atmos nor Dirac Virtuo processing is available.
The FreeBuds 7i offer 8 hours of battery life per charge, with the charging case extending total playback to 27 hours. The rechargeable battery fully charges in 1.5 hours, and a battery level indicator is included to keep track of remaining power. Wireless charging and solar charging are not supported, so the case relies solely on a wired connection for recharging.
The FreeBuds 7i connect wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.4 with a maximum range of 10 m, and support both LDAC and AAC codecs for audio transmission. The charging case uses USB Type-C for wired connectivity. Fast pairing, NFC pairing, and Auracast are not available, and the earbuds do not support any variant of the aptX codec family, LDHC, or Bluetooth LE Audio.
The FreeBuds 7i include a practical set of everyday features, among them ambient sound mode, in-ear detection for automatic music pausing, a find device function, and a mute option for calls. Fast charging is supported, and the earbuds can be used as a headset with controls accessible via a device-side control panel and voice prompts for audio feedback. A travel bag is included in the box. The earbuds do not offer notification readout, a built-in translator, an in-line control panel, a body temperature sensor, or a camera remote shutter function.
The FreeBuds 7i are equipped with a 6-microphone array that includes noise-canceling capability, helping to reduce background sound during calls and voice input.
