The JBL Tune Buds 2 adopt a true wireless, in-ear design with no cables or neckband, and tip the scales at just 11 grams. They carry an IP54 rating, making them resistant to water and dust ingress, which adds a degree of durability for everyday conditions. Stereo speakers are built in, while wingtips, RGB lighting, a UV light, and a display are all absent from the design.
The JBL Tune Buds 2 feature both active noise cancellation (ANC) and passive noise reduction, giving them two layers of isolation from ambient sound. Audio is delivered through a 10 mm driver unit with a frequency range spanning 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, an impedance of 16 Ohms, and a sound pressure level of 95 dB/mW. Spatial audio is supported, while Dolby Atmos, Dirac Virtuo, and a neodymium magnet are not part of the specification.
Each earbud houses a rechargeable 68 mAh battery delivering up to 12 hours of playback, or 10 hours when ANC is active, and the 630 mAh charging case extends the total to 36 hours. A full charge takes 2 hours, and a battery level indicator is present to keep track of remaining power. Wireless charging and solar battery options are not available on this model.
The JBL Tune Buds 2 connect wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.3 with a maximum range of 10 meters, and fast pairing is supported for quicker device setup. USB Type-C is used for wired charging, though NFC pairing is not available. On the codec side, the earbuds do not support AAC, LDAC, LDHC, aptX in any of its variants, LE Audio, or Auracast, keeping the connectivity profile relatively straightforward.
The JBL Tune Buds 2 include ambient sound mode, a mute function, voice prompts, and a find-device feature, along with fast charging support and multipoint connection to two devices simultaneously. They can be used as a headset and are controlled via a panel placed on the device itself, though an in-line control panel is not present. A travel bag is included in the box, and the earbuds come with a one-year warranty. Features such as in-ear detection, notification reading, a built-in translator, a temperature sensor, and a camera remote are not part of the specification.
The JBL Tune Buds 2 are equipped with a total of six microphones, and noise cancellation is applied to the microphone system to help reduce unwanted background sound during calls.
