The MSI Pro B850-S Wi-Fi6E is built around the AM5 socket with B850 chipset compatibility and follows the standard ATX form factor, measuring 304.8 × 243.8 mm. It supports Wi-Fi across multiple generations — 802.11n, 802.11ac, and 802.11ax including Wi-Fi 6E — alongside Bluetooth 5.3, though aptX is not supported. Video output is handled through an HDMI 2.1 port, while the board does not include integrated graphics or an integrated CPU. Overclocking is straightforward by design, and RGB lighting is present on the board itself. Resetting the BIOS is made easy via a clear CMOS feature, though there is no dual BIOS. The board carries a three-year warranty and fits a single CPU socket configuration.
The board supports DDR5 memory across four slots in a dual-channel configuration, with a maximum capacity of 256GB. Stock RAM speeds reach up to 5600 MHz, while overclocking can push that figure to 8200 MHz. ECC memory is not supported.
The rear panel offers a solid spread of USB connectivity, with three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, and one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port. There are no USB 2.0, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C, Gen 2x2, USB 4, Thunderbolt 3, or Thunderbolt 4 ports present. Display output is covered by one HDMI port and one DisplayPort output, while VGA and DVI connectors are absent. Networking is handled by a single RJ45 port, and there are no eSATA or PS/2 ports included.
For internal expansion, the board provides two USB 3.2 Gen 1 headers, one USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 header, and four USB 2.0 headers, while USB 3.2 Gen 2 and Gen 2x2 expansion connectors are not included. Storage connectivity consists of four SATA 3 connectors and two M.2 sockets, with no SATA 2, U.2, or mSATA options present. Cooling is well served by six fan headers, and a TPM connector is also onboard for security module support.
The board includes three expansion slots in total: one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, one PCIe x4 slot, and one PCIe x1 slot. There are no PCIe 5.0, PCIe 3.0, PCIe 2.0, or PCIe x8 slots, and no legacy PCI slots are present.
The board supports 7.1-channel audio and provides three analog audio connectors on the rear panel. An S/PDIF Out port is not included.
The board supports RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 10 configurations, covering the most common setups for both performance and redundancy. RAID 5 and RAID 0+1 are not supported.
