The phone is not particularly heavy, and its overall volume comes in at just over 102 cm³.

The Vivo Y39 5G uses a 6.68-inch IPS LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1608 px and a pixel density of 264 ppi, delivering reasonably sharp visuals across its large panel. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate, which contributes to smoother motion during scrolling and general use. The display does not include branded damage-resistant glass, and it lacks support for HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and Always-On Display functionality. There is no secondary screen on this device.

The Vivo Y39 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, a 4 nm chipset with an octa-core CPU arranged in a big.LITTLE configuration running at up to 2.3 GHz across two performance cores and 2 GHz across six efficiency cores, with a thermal design power of 4W. It comes with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM running at 3200 MHz and 256GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage, with the platform supporting a maximum memory amount of 16GB. Graphics are handled by the integrated Adreno 613 GPU clocked at 955 MHz, which supports DirectX 12, OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2, and up to two simultaneous displays. The SoC also integrates LTE, supports 64-bit processing, and includes ARM TrustZone for hardware-level security.

The Vivo Y39 5G features a dual-lens rear camera system with a 50 MP primary sensor at f/1.8 and a 2 MP secondary lens at f/2.4, both using CMOS technology without a back-illuminated sensor. The main camera supports phase-detection autofocus for stills, continuous autofocus during video, and touch autofocus, though it lacks laser autofocus and optical image stabilization. Video recording tops out at 1080p at 30 fps, with no support for HDR10 or Dolby Vision recording, while slow-motion video and timelapse are both available. Privacy tools include clipboard warnings, location privacy options, camera and microphone access controls, and the ability to block app tracking, though cross-site tracking blocking and Mail Privacy Protection are not available. The OS also includes on-device machine learning, offline voice recognition, voice commands, and device position tracking. Productivity-oriented features cover full-page scrolling screenshots, a media picker, live text selection from images, customizable notifications with notification permission controls, app offloading, sharing intents, a child lock, and the ability to play games while they are still downloading. Battery health checking is built in, and Wi-Fi password sharing and Quick Start are not supported. Direct OS updates from the vendor are not provided on this device.

The Vivo Y39 5G houses a 6500 mAh rechargeable battery with a built-in level indicator, giving users a clear read on remaining charge at all times. It supports 44W wired fast charging, and a compatible charger is included in the box, so no separate purchase is needed. Wireless charging is not available, and the battery is not user-removable.

The Vivo Y39 5G includes a 3.5 mm headphone jack, allowing wired headphones and headsets to be connected directly without an adapter. Speaker output is limited to a single channel, as stereo speakers are not present. The Vivo Y39 5G includes a video light, which can be used to illuminate subjects during video recording. The display is flat rather than curved, and it uses neither sapphire glass nor an e-paper panel.
