The OM System OM-3 is a mirrorless system camera with an electronic viewfinder offering 100% coverage, making it straightforward to frame shots accurately. The body measures 139.3 mm wide, 88.9 mm tall, and 45.8 mm thick, with a total volume of approximately 567.18 cm³ and a weight of 496 g. Its weather-sealed construction allows operation in temperatures ranging from -10 °C to 40 °C, providing resilience in varied conditions. The 3″ touchscreen resolves at 1620k dots and flips out fully for flexible shooting angles, though the viewfinder itself does not tilt. A hot shoe is present for attaching external flash units, while a built-in flash is not included. The camera does not have a tilting viewfinder.
The OM System OM-3 uses a Micro Four Thirds back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor resolving 20.4 MP, paired with a Micro Four Thirds lens mount for broad lens compatibility. In-body sensor-shift stabilization is rated at 6.5 stops (CIPA) and can be combined with compatible lens stabilization for additional steadiness. The autofocus system draws on 1053 phase-detection points and supports AF tracking, touch autofocus, and manual focus, giving shooters flexible control over how the camera locks onto a subject. Native ISO reaches 25600, expandable to 102400, with full manual control over ISO, exposure, shutter speed, and white balance also available. The mechanical shutter tops out at 1/8000 s, while the electronic shutter achieves a maximum of 1/32000 s, and flash sync is supported at 1/250 s. Continuous mechanical shooting runs at 6 fps in burst mode, and maximum exposure time extends to 60 s for long-exposure work. A two-stage shutter, built-in HDR mode, and manual exposure round out the imaging controls.
The OM System OM-3 records video at up to 2160p/60fps with a bitrate of 205 Mbps, and also supports a 24p cinema mode as well as slow-motion video recording for more creative flexibility. Autofocus during video capture relies on phase-detection and remains continuous throughout recording, helping maintain subject sharpness without manual intervention. For audio, the camera includes a built-in stereo microphone with two capsules, a 3.5 mm microphone input for an external mic, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack for monitoring. Timelapse recording is also supported natively, rounding out a video feature set that covers a range of shooting scenarios.
The OM System OM-3 is powered by a removable, rechargeable battery rated at 2280 mAh, with a CIPA-rated battery life of 590 shots per charge. A battery level indicator is built in, allowing users to monitor remaining power at a glance without any guesswork during a shoot.
The OM System OM-3 runs on a TruePic X processor and supports both Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) for wireless connectivity, alongside Bluetooth 5.2 for pairing with a smartphone for remote control. Connectivity options extend to a USB Type-C port and an HDMI output, while an external memory slot provides storage flexibility, though the camera has only a single card slot rather than dual slots. Raw capture is supported, including lossless compressed raw, and a pixel shift shot mode is available for enhanced resolution output. The camera does not include GPS, NFC, an advanced hot shoe, or first-party live streaming support.
