Tecno Spark 40

The Tecno Spark 40 has a slim profile at just 7.7 mm thick, with a height of 165.6 mm and a width of 77 mm, resulting in a total volume of roughly 98.18 cm³. It carries an IP64 rating, meaning it offers solid protection against dust and resistance to water splashing from any direction. The phone does not feature a rugged build, nor does it have a folding form factor, placing it firmly in the category of standard, fixed-frame smartphones.

The Tecno Spark 40 features a 6.67″ IPS LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and a pixel density of 263 ppi. It supports a 120Hz touch sampling rate, which contributes to more responsive touch input during everyday use. The display does not include branded damage-resistant glass, and there is no support for HDR10, HDR10+, or Dolby Vision, nor does it offer an Always-On Display mode or a secondary screen.

The Tecno Spark 40 is powered by the MediaTek Helio G81 Ultra, a 12 nm chipset built on an eight-core, big.LITTLE architecture with clock speeds of 2 x 2 GHz and 6 x 1.8 GHz, reaching a turbo frequency of 2 GHz, and a thermal design power of 5W. It is paired with 8GB of DDR4 RAM running at 1800 MHz across two memory channels, delivering a maximum memory bandwidth of 13.41 GB/s, while 256GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage handles app and file management. Graphics are handled by the integrated Mali G52 MP2 GPU, which features 2 execution units, 32 shading units, and a turbo clock of 950 MHz, with support for DirectX 12, OpenGL 3.2, OpenGL ES 3.2, and OpenCL 2. The SoC also includes integrated LTE, TrustZone security, and 64-bit support, with cache consisting of 0.3 MB L2 and 1 MB L3, and the chip is built from approximately 5,500 million transistors. Geekbench 6 scores came in at 420 single-core and 1,391 multi-core, while Geekbench 5 recorded 350 and 1,300 respectively.

The Tecno Spark 40 carries a single-lens 50 MP main camera built around a CMOS sensor, supporting phase-detection autofocus for stills and continuous autofocus during video recording, with footage captured at up to 1440 x 30 fps. Manual controls include exposure, ISO, focus, and white balance, while additional shooting modes cover burst shots and in-camera panoramas; however, manual shutter speed, slow-motion recording, RAW output, timelapse, HDR mode, and 360° panorama are not available. The rear flash setup consists of two LEDs, though neither a dual-tone nor an RGB configuration is present, and there is no optical zoom or optical image stabilization. On the front, an 8 MP single-lens camera handles selfies without a dedicated flash or an under-display placement, and HDR10 and Dolby Vision recording are not supported on either camera.

The Tecno Spark 40 runs Android 15 and ships with a broad set of software features covering both usability and privacy. On the privacy side, it includes clipboard warnings, location privacy options, camera and microphone access controls, and the ability to block app tracking, though Mail Privacy Protection and cross-site tracking blocking are absent. The interface supports theme customization, dynamic theming, dark mode, and an extra dim mode, along with widgets, customizable notifications, a media picker, split-screen multitasking, picture-in-picture, full-page screenshots, and Live Text. Productivity is further aided by on-device machine learning, offline voice recognition, voice commands, app offloading, sharing intents, a child lock, multi-user support, and the ability to play games while they download. The phone also includes a battery health check and device tracking, but does not support focus modes, Wi-Fi password sharing, Quick Start, direct OS vendor updates, or use as a PC.

The Tecno Spark 40 is equipped with a 5200 mAh rechargeable battery that supports 45W wired fast charging, and a charger is included in the box. A battery level indicator is present for at-a-glance monitoring, while the battery itself is non-removable. Wireless charging is not supported.

The Tecno Spark 40 includes a 3.5 mm headphone jack and stereo speakers, covering the basics for both wired listening and hands-free audio output. On the wireless audio side, the device does not support aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, or LDAC, and there is no built-in radio.

The Tecno Spark 40 operates on a 4G cellular network with dual SIM support, reaching download speeds of up to 300 Mbits/s and upload speeds of up to 100 Mbits/s, though 5G is not available. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, USB Type-C, and an external memory slot, while NFC, HDMI output, DLNA certification, and ANT+ are absent. For location, the device supports GPS and Galileo, and an accelerometer is present, though there is no barometer, infrared sensor, motion tracking, or optical tracking. Security is handled by a fingerprint scanner, with no 3D facial recognition or iris scanner on board. Features such as satellite emergency SOS, crash detection, a heart rate monitor, a built-in projector, and a stylus are not included.

The Tecno Spark 40 includes a video light for recording in low-light conditions. The display is flat rather than curved, and neither sapphire glass nor an e-paper panel is used.
