The operating system on the iPhone 17 Pro Max includes a broad set of privacy controls, covering clipboard warnings, location privacy options, camera and microphone access management, Mail Privacy Protection, the ability to block app tracking, and cross-site tracking prevention. Notification handling is fully customizable, focus modes are supported, and the system includes a media picker, full-page screenshots, Live Text for selecting text within images, and a child lock. Utility features include dark mode, Wi-Fi password sharing, battery health check, app offloading, widgets, Picture-in-Picture, AirPlay, SharePlay, sharing intents, Quick Start, device tracking, voice commands, and offline voice recognition. On-device machine learning is built in, and the device receives direct OS updates from the vendor. Theme customization, dynamic theming, extra dim mode, split-screen multitasking, and multi-user support are not available, nor can the device be used as a PC or play games while they are downloading. The OS is not free or open source.
